EDIT: My previous problem was fixed, but does anyone know why my computer keeps on giving me messages at startup saying, "Cannot upgrade from 1% to 2%"?

Is there any context for the message, what does it relate to (e.g. Memory)?

It does not say... all that I know is that the message appears in DOS (after the Windows ME logo disappears)

It may be that a system file corrupted, Windows ME has been known to crash a lot for no reason, I used to have it. Your best option my be to format your hard drive, I did that a lot when I had ME

If you can afford it, I'd recommend buying a new operating system. ME really does have a lot of bugs in it. We used to have it on one of our computers but bought XP.
If you can't afford to do this, then I'd go with what has already been said: format your hard drive.

I have recently got a message containing the "Windows can not update from 1% to 2%" text, but at the top it said: "Windows is updating your configuration files, please wait..." Does this help?

Well as it's a start up problem it seems to me that when the machine starts up it's checking wheather everything is intack and notices there's a error

Try opening one side of your Tower open (Depending on your computer case)

And check nothing has fell out if not just push everything in gently (Becareful)

And make sure it's swiched off by the power supply

If it still has the error take it to a local computer shop

Last thing to try is when it starts up hold F8 Then go to safe mode if that works contact me

What kind of Pentium do you have? I heard alot of problems related to the memory with Windows ME and Windows XP. If it is a 2 or lower, I would consider putting more memory into it because it would maybe fix this problem.

It normal doesn't have anything to do with Pentium it is, I used to have A p2 And it is still going today either though i don't use it anymore due to got better machines but it runs just as good as the new ones on the market and that's a fact. Well as i said this is probably the problem

Nothing to do with Windows ME, It's very stable and as good as XP,95,98,ME
The problem he has got is ram, He opens so many programs I.E Habbohotel, Msn Messenger, Websites, Applications ECT

And the computer doesn't have enough Virtual memory

They way to fixing this is by buying More ram, Or borrow some of a friend that has loads

Try to get the ram up to 512MB, 512MB DDR Is now average and 256mb Low isn't

512 Should do for what you want, It costs about 30-50 Uk pds
