Layout help

Ok i am trying to make a layout for my site i went to impetuous.net or however you spell it and downloaded a layout from there it comes out as a image i have some questions?

Do all layouts come as images?

And if they do how will i type on it?

How will i get it onto all my pages i got it on the index (homepage) but it aint on the rest of them so what do i do about that?

Did it come with a html file with all the images shown in their correct places? You'll have to edit that if there is one :D

No, most layouts dont come like that.

Infact, I find it much easier making it from scratch, it should load quicker aswell that way :)

With layouts that come as images, I think you have to slice them or something in a special program :s. Im not sure though, in my opinions its a bad way of making a layout like that.

So what is the best type of program i should use to make a layout that is going to make it easier for me to do plz respond thank you i would also like to know what is a good program to make banners i am trying to get my fansite up as soon as possible

I think slicing is good for small sites, using iFrame's or something. But for larger sites that need expanding and regular 'customizing' its best to start from scratch.
