Hello,

Finally making the switch FROM Vista to XP again! Woo.

Well Here is what I think:

Pros

Eyecandy Theme
Lovely Icons
Nice 'fitting-in' Sidebar
Nice 'Aura' Boot with the Tweak Dave told us aboutCons

Buggers up and starts saying: Explorer.exe has encountered an error blah blah when opening the Control Panel, ***?
Starts to say I do not Have Administrator Privileges, **** YOU I DO!
Isn't compatible with a heck of alot of Programs
Hardly any 'built-in' drivers.
Virtual CD/DVD Drives bugger up, Alcohol 120% - Not compatible, MagicDisk - Want reinstalling every reboot.
I was using around 60% of my RAM (Well i can understand this, i only have 756MB??) on Idle!Comon MS, you really lost out on this one. TBH Vista has made me:

1. Go Back to XP
2. Move to Linux or Mac OsX -.-

Post your Opinions on Vista, Let it all out ;)

Thanks
Tom

I got an upgrade disk when I bought the pc so if mine messes up Ill install that. No problems with it so far apart from the thread starter mentioning it says he isnt an admin, I have the same problem.

Alcohol ftw ;)

Im back on XP now thank god :P

Vista isnt just XP, its Windows Server 2003 with a new Theme basically.

Its total crap, Goto control panel: explorer.exe has stopped working blah blah.

I didnt install anything, it started doing that after a reboot (soft, dont by start menu)

It was total crap.

If anyone wants it think again, or try it out and find out the crap that it really is... -.-

i'm on vista now on my laptop. it sucks.
sick of it saying not got admin when i do.
theme is way to dark.

and people new to computers wont to what do seeing as the start button doesn't even say start (unless you hover over it).

Tawmu
03-04-2007, 03:13 PM
Also the fact that it doesnt like most applications being used under Aero so it has to spend 10 seconds switching the theme around.

I dont see why it kept on saying to me I needed to become an Administrator or I didnt have the right priveledges or something to install stuff, reinstall stuff etc...

Xp and Vista are O/S's Mac's are a type of computer o.0

ps. The reason its telling you you dont have admin privileges, is because YOU DONT. Unlike XP vista doesn't give you admin privileges by default, hence making it far more secure. Stop talking as if its a bug when all it is you not being able to figure out how the privileges system works. your not an admin on OSX by default ether.

I have Vista and it works perfectly fine :) only had a minor hiccup due to my own stupidness :P and use daemon tools, it works perfectly fine with Vista, 99% of my programs are compatible, except my printer software but they released a vista compatible version on the site, so basically all my stuff works :) So I give Vista a thumbs up.

Your still booted in as standard user, you need to provided creditals to perform actions useing admin access. Why couldnt you just put in your login details o.0

Nick why are you using Vista Basic theme.
Mac OS X beats Windows :)
and I'm probably mad with vista because I have been using XP since it came out, and before that I used 98 since it came out. (Obviously changed computers many times). But vista is just stupid and annoying. ALL THESE STUPID FEATURES NO-ONE EVER NEEDS.

ALSO MY TOUCHPAD DRIVER IS SO ANNOYING. WHEN I START VISTA IT ASKS ME IF I WANT TO RUN IT, AND I TELL IT NOT TO ASK ME AGAIN. STUPID VISTA SECURITY. so i got a mouse haha.

How do I change the theam?

and when is SP1 coming out.

Caution
03-04-2007, 04:08 PM
The theme will change to Vista basic when you're on a program that's not compatible. Once you close it it'll change to Vista Aero again.

If not. Go to Right click desktop > Theme.

Stop bagging vista, Vista is designed to make things simple and more user friendly which from using the beta i agree they have done yes its like a mac but so what Microsoft have basically made mac o/sx for pc's so what If you think vista is crap i think u should go find a hole and start calling you self a n00b like all things if something doesn't work read your manual check compatibilty for programs u download if u have a problem with a program not working on vista thats you own fault wiat a few months vista is what 2 months old now if that.
Don't judge it until u've unlocked the hidden feautes of vista there is more to vista than most people think

Tomm

You need to right click on the program and click run as administrator to actually run the program with administrative privileges.

You can download a cracked version of OSX, the crack enables you to use it on Intel and in some cases AMD Processors. So you can use them on PCs alrady -.-

why diss it when it hasn't been out long. everything always has bugs in it when it's first released. that is why you wait a bit...

Is there anyway of sharing the Applications that I installed on XP with the Vista that dual boots with it?

I know that programs add to the registry etc...

Stephen
17-04-2007, 04:16 PM
If you find the shortcuts in program files then you COULD run them. I tried this but it come up with all sorts of compatibility issues. it's a good idea but unfortunatly does not work in all cases. It's better just to install them again.

If you like the look of vista but don't really want it beacause it isn't compatible just skin windows XP to look like vist ;D

There is a thread in this Forum with the links to a readdy skinned design, only the startup screen doesn't look too good

My vista works fine, been running it since feb, not a single problem, still as fast as the day I installed it, all my programs are compatible with it, even all my ancient cad / cam's all my games run fine.

I quite like the GUI as well, may be ripped from mac I dont frankly give a damn.
