There are many ways of uploading with many sites.
I'll name a few of them now..
www.photobucket.com - Register for uploading, you also get a free album when you register. Register Free.
www.imageshack.us - No need to register, just upload and go. Free Uploading.
www.ezimagecenter.us - Free uploading, no need to register, but images are deleted after 30 days and you will need to upload them again.
www.uploadit.org - Register for free, but .jpeg file extensions are only allowed in the free register version. Register for £6.00 a year and get all extensions allowed to be uploaded and 200mb of upload space, in both versions you get an album. Note : Free Version is quite unreliable, the server will crash frequently.

EDIT : I use photobucket, it is reliable quick register and free. I reccomend that one, if you are uplaod a .bmp file, use photobcket. Its reliable and free.
But if you want to upload a .bmp file quick, but not very reliable use EzImageCenter.

2ND EDIT : Re-read your post, use the tags to make your image visable.

Yes if its an avatar you can upload it from the User CP, but it must be 80x80 pixels or less. I use netscape, but photobucket sounds much better :)
