after reading up on windows home server i looked sadly at my windows 2000 server which i had downgraded earlyier this year from 2003 (because i <3 2000)

ANYway.

i didn't really like windows home server as well it was too 'home'y for me so i checked the latest betas and found longhorn had been released back in april (a day after my birthday infact)

Soooo i downloaded it 3 times (first i accidently downloaded 64 bit edition, second time was corupt, third time lucky) and signed up for the public beta, just installed it

Finally the Vista server is here.... going to take a look around it now.

Edit: Vista server.... is eating through my ram... going to have to add another gig tomorrow

its easy to use... annoyingly so ... i prefered it when i had complete control rather then it trying to help me constantly. and always telling me to add secuirty

i want to turn on a guest account so i can access files on it easily but it demmands that users have a username and password

i'll get round it all eventually. the graphics have been turned down low automatically i think i have a windows classic / vista look about it

LOL!! i can say vista is a resource hungry OS if you are going to run a home server maybe look at cent os or some thing.

i know exactly what i'm doing. i just didn't have the correct ram in it at the time. i've now installed an extra 2 Gig and its working fine.

and tbh if i was going to downgrade i'd go straight back to 2000 server.

Yes this is indeed Windows 2008 (Codename Longhorn) aka the base code of vista rather then 2000

i'll grab some screenshots later...

basicly its half vista half classic on the gui

if it wasn't for the system hogging i'd much prefer it
