Linux is comeing ..

Ye in my drum room i have a old 98 pc just to play tunes to drum too i have finnaly had enough of windows on it and decided to venture out to linux i have decided to get ubunta as that is the favoroite looking arround.This is my first ever time using linux so it should be fun lol.Just a question as well can if i plug my usb in will it reconise it like it does on xp?

It should just come up on your desktop. To be able to play MP3 files etc... you need to get a package called something like "Ubuntu Hidden Features" or something.

Ubuntu is just as easy to use as Windows, it reconises devices just like windows.

I would wait another 6? days for the upcoming new Ubuntu version

Yes it will play mp3s.


Ubuntu will tell you if it lacks the codecs and will download them for you, very nice little os.

Why don't you try a live disk first :)

Unbuntu has the amazing propertly of being able to run live of a disk


Stick it in the machine on bootup and it'll load up the OS. (from inside which you can install the os)

Basicly the best way of trying out all the features before you install/format over your current OS.

i updated to the lastest version just the otherday :)

soz for double post but on nthe live cd/ install the screen is black whitha white - like that flashing but the cd is still going round is this normal

edit:now just a black screen but disk is still going it has been on the mouse/black screen for like 20 mins
