Right I used to use Ubuntu a lot on my old laptop, got a new one and:

- Display only goes up to 800x600 :@ Installed (tried to) drivers for card (VIA Chrome9 HC IGP) FAIL.

- Wireless doesnt work. It comes up in Networking setup wireless but no networks and manual doesnt work. Tried installing ndiswrapper but it always fails and I think its the kernel version or something how do I update.

Thanks.
Btw, XP says the wireless card is Broadcom 802.11g Wireless

Well for your wireless I can hopefully help ;). I have a broadcom and its a ***** in Linux due to Broadcom not releasing any info. But it can be easily done in my experience in Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper
sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter
sudo bcm43xx-fwcutter -w/lib/firmware bcmwl5.sys
sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
modprobe ndiswrapper

Obviously you will need the driver files but that should work. Also if you install bcm43xx-fwcutter via synaptic there is an option to extract the firmware files for you so just tick the box.

i had this problem, simply ajusting the graphics display to pull from a genereic driver let me change it away from such a small resolution
