what is a linux server

Linux is just another operating System (Windows being anotherone)

And its being used as a server

Oooh whats a server mate?Your school will have one. There's a few definations but the one in a school is simple to explain. The server holds all the data such as files etc and that allows you to login on any computer in the school and you can find files you saved on any PC in the school. As when you save it puts them on it, and when you want to use them you find them on there. It's difficult to explain but website's also have them, it's where they're hosted, called a web server most the time.

Websites like Habbox run on Linux running on a server in a datacenter.

Server is basically just a big box to store and run things from.

You can make your pc a server but because you use your pc it wont be as good. Servers are just left to run by them selves.

Some Linux servers haven't been turned off/restarted for about 7 years. Far more reliable than Windows.

Servers are basically computers that don't get used and left on all day , other computers access these 'servers' and take information out of these servers.

All websites need a server that is online 24/7 so people can access the site.

I always thought Linux servers were called Unix servers or something O.o

Unix was before Linux I think, and it mainly command line.
