View Full Version : Damn Small Linux
Any of you ever tried Damn Small Linux?
http://damnsmalllinux.org/
I wanted to try it but couldn't get it to install :(
Aagghh the time limit thing ran out while I was editing, so:
Edit: Should I keep trying to install it? Or should I try and use a different linux type thing?
Because I'm bored of XP and I wanna see what all the fuss is about.

www.ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com) - Ubuntu is more desktop material. They literally make it so easy to install that your gran could do it! (One of their slogans is 'So easy to install/use your gran could do it!')
You don't install DSL you run it from a CD or USB Stick.
I'm downloading Ubuntu now :)
And yeah, I was trying to run it from usb, no idea why I said install...
How easy would it be for me to make the switch over to ubuntu permanently?
Like, what are the main differences between ubuntu and xp?
Because my brain is still firmly in xp mode

mostly the applications. If you don't do gaming then you will find Linux alternatives for just about every application out :P If your into gaming I wouldn't move permanently.
Well I'm not really into gaming, so hopefully I won't have too many problems.
Thanks for the help, +rep if I can
EDIT: Is there any way of running it through alcohol 120%? Because I can't find any blank discs to burn it onto

I've tried damn small linux, It's very simple, but quite good for something that fits on a memory stick. :)
Ubuntu is the best linux distro I've come across.

If you boot it from your memory stick, it will take over your whole screen.
If you use something like VMware, you can probably run it in a window.

Well how fdo you switch between the both?
If you boot it from your memory stick, it will take over your whole screen.
If you use something like VMware, you can probably run it in a window.
With DSL, you don't need VMware to run it in a window

So its like using remote desktop buy with linux?
Yeah, sort of.
But AAAAGGGHH!! I can't find a blank disc to put Ubuntu on, so I decided to use a rewritable disc that already has stuff on, but when I try to erase it, it says that it's not a rewritable disc, any ideas on how to fix it?

You don't need a blank disk. Follow this tutorial, its how I do it to save on disks, but I ordered some free Ubuntu disks and got free stickers with them :D

Hmm I was after more of a Live CD thing, because partitions scare me, but I might give it a go.
