So, if i install a linux distro and dual-boot with vista. But then i decide i want to remove linux for whatever reason, can i remove the partition with GParted and then expand the VISTA partition back to using the whole HD?

Just format the partision in Vista and then you will have to enter the Vista CD and you will need to use DOS to reinstall the Boot loader for vista :) search Google on how to reinstall the boot loader

I don't have a VISTA disk, i have one of those 'restore disks' and a rescue partition. And I'd rather just have one partition with one OS.

Youd ether have to reinstall the vista boot loader, or just remove all the linux entrys from grub and reformat there disk space "/
