When i try installing Linux from the LiveCD it gets tot he point where it has to make a partition then fails.

What does error it give? It was very straight forward when I did it.

When I installed Ubuntu it wouldn't work past the partition bit o nthe final install without it.

When I tried to install ubuntu again off of alt cd it just froze on the partition bit and wouldn't partition or anything

Its working now, ubuntu is now my primary OS =]

Are you installing on a previously vista pc? since some changes to vistas ntfs cause a few problems with linux's partioning tools. best to repartion in vista and install in to the free space if thats the case.
