Not true, despite how many hacks do form security loop holes the main problem is what the hacks have caused in the past,

we tried implementing a shoutbox but becauses of masses and masses of users trying to use it our hosts went haywire on us for making the server go haywire.

Before that on the birth of the US forum around early autumn 2005 there were so many hacks installed that it caused a massive database corruption and the forum was out of comission for 2 weeks because everything had to be reinstalled as we were simply completely locked out of the system and not even backups were working.

We were lucky in the US forum case as the forum was still fairly new and there were not too many members, posts and luckily no Vips.

If something similar were to happen to HxF Uk we would be facing something like a month of restoration from trying to restore users and their posts and threads as well as our forum.

There is only one hack that has been used and that is the radio player one we have at the bottom of the forum home. We allowed this one as it works independently of our database and files which means that if anything were to go wrong with it it wouldnt affected our forums.

The rest have been code patches that either me or Wayne_J have implemented in the past and these havent been hacks for members they have just been made as it was crucial for our forum functionality.


The arcade hack is a database modifying hack and with the many users we have on our forum at one time I doubt we will see it anytime soon. If we were to install it, it certainly wouldnt be accessable for all users on the forum as it would just slow down the servers greatly.

I think that you should create a special 'arcade membership' in addition to the memberships that you already have.

Say, you buy 'tokens' to play games or memberships seperatly from VIP which then enables you to play the games in the arcade and have a special arcade forum so people can boast and set achievments for each other and give each other handy tips on certain games.

The arcade will be tested for a week to see if the server can handle it etc. It will only be used by VIPs though .

We are currently checking things. Hopefully if all is good, the arcade should go public within a few days. If not, I guess, no arcade for hxf uk .

Staff members are just like normal members only they get to see staff forums to help them do their jobs.

Personally, if 25+ people are playing the arcade, I expect the server load to be very high, which will nicely lag the forum. I am more worried about data integrity than the server load on the arcade. If it uses to much load then there will be no arcade.

I dont think theres a point in having in arcade if we did that :p. We can set limits after we see what its like without them .
