Supporters say 36 more members are needed, to scrutinise both the law-making process and Welsh ministers' actions, in a far more powerful Senedd than the fledgling institution which began 25 years ago.

But Conservatives have argued that the extra spending involved, estimated to be as much as ?17.8m a year, should go to the NHS instead.
Have always said devolution has been a disaster. Instead of one political class, we've now got multiple layers of useless politicians whether it be Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Police and Crime Commissioners, Mayors...... the gravy train has grown bigger and bigger since 1997. And can anyone actually say we are in any way better governed with all this? Still, at least we did manage to knock away one level of governance with leaving the useless EU 'Parliament'.

Real devolution would have been abolishing everything bar Westminster, and handing devolved powers down to local councils as it was prior to the post-war centralisation of power. That didn't happen though because A) it would have meant we avoided creating mini-fiefdoms of useless politicians who can suck at the taxpayers teet & B) just being a local councillor and doing a good job in your area doesn't appeal to many of these grifters and greasy pole climbers.

What a mess. And far from empowering democracy just look at the poor turnout figures for these institutions.
