I was just reading some information on surrogate parents and what rights they have. From what I picked up, here's what I see:

  • Surrogate parents can change their mind and keep the baby (and courts will probably be in their favour)
  • The surrogate mother's partner will be the automatic father of the baby, genetically related or not

To me this just seems so wrong. How on Earth is it fair for a surrogate mother to change her mind about such a thing? Not only would the intended parents be devastated over the loss of their baby but probably spent thousands on the surrogate's expenses. This actually makes me so angry.

How would you feel if you couldn't have children and your surrogate kept the baby once born?
