Do people take Habbo too seriously?

I don't think it's different for someone at 13 or someone at 21, I think it depends on the level of maturity you have - I'll revert back to me again and say I'm 18 I take it seriously in event forms and sometimes trading (more of a silent thing there) but someone who is 12/13 could be more advanced thank someone older. I also think amount of years you have played reflects this SOMETIMES as I know some have played for years and still are unsure on everything they can do.

I do agree with you Gomme, it is the fact they were there and I think more the fact Sulake knew that yet they kept them there. According to them it's just more money really, those players are buying credits and buying their VIP subscription to party in sexualised rooms. The Channel 4 report stunted it's growth for a short while, now it's easy to avoid the filter placed and it's pointless that it ever occurred. It shouldn't have to take a television report for something to be done. Being on topic here, a lot would be annoyed if say Habbo shut down - a lot are annoyed now at the fact their Homepage things aren't there anymore, you can't make events and general features such as Minimail. Yeah some features don't work, but then again people will take it seriously whatever age they are, if they've grown up with Habbo for a few years, they believe they belong to the community, they want that interaction between staff and want their opinions listened to. Sometimes, when that doesn't happen they will take things the wrong way and rebel against rules in place. In the mute itself you could tell people took some things seriously, the candle-lit vigil for one - they were dedication rather than serious but then I believe there's a fine line between the two!

When Habbo was being rightfully attacked over the paedophilia and lack of moderation claims by C4, it was clear too many people take it far too seriously - to defend a site for children (Under 16 years of age) saying that the report was biased and that C4 was looking for the offensive rooms. It's not about them finding it, it's the fact it exists.

As for digital "property", it's fair enough people will get upset if they lose their digital furniture. You paid for it or won it, and to have it taken away from you due to a lack of security on that of the user or the company is incredibly frustrating and breaks down trust.

Yes Habbo was rightfully attacked but channel 4 should have focused on the general problem as well as Habbo as I found it made Habbo look like the only culprit. It should have also looked at why it took years to realise the problem existed within Habbo as it's been going on for years and yet they only seemed to notice recently which tells me better systems to check these sites in general is needed.

As for people taking the site too serious, I always found people who paid for stuff a little stupid (sorry for those who do pay for stuff). I haven't used Habbo myself for years and only use Habbox Forum as I find the non habbo talk is decent e.g. Tech, Music, TV (although it's not as busy as it once was). When I did use Habbo if I ever had money I'd rather just use it on proper items, as in actual physical items I could use in real life rather than something pixelated. But then again I've also avoided online monthly payment games as well.

But it's just a game and you learn that mentality. If you're still crying about it by the time you're 16, then you need to learn that mentality.

Essentially Habbo is just a social networking site, so you'll find many over 18's playing Habbo, I don't personally but I knew many people that did, and this is about 4/5 years ago. Why can't adults play Habbo? My Dad frequently plays war games on the PC, and my Uncles play sport and FPS gaqmes - Habbo isn't any different. I play RuneScape and meet many parents (And I'm talking 30/40 year olds, not the 17 year old fathers...) whilst playing and they often get a lot of stick for it...

Habbo has been around since 2004, so if you've been playing since you are 13 and are now 21, what's the issue?

In a way, it is a hobby, the same as taking up a sport or something. I think you have just as much right to be playing it at 21 as you do at 13. However there is just social stigma attached to playing it when you are older than a certain age.

I'm 25, i don't 'play' Habbo, i know people on it from way back when... so it's nice to come on and chat. I do have better things to do, i work and socialise. Funnily enough.. just because we are adults, doesn't mean that every single moment of every single day we need to be at work or out. I also have to add, that because your younger, doesn't mean you should sit in and play Habbo all day either. You can go out and about as well...

not everyone takes habbo seriously, but there are people who do. you could say the same for habbox too though. quite a few people seem to take things way too seriously and seem to forget that the fansite was created for entertainment purposes, nothing more. it actually makes me laugh how there are older people on habbo treating it like it means everything to them, and how they're better than everyone else. oh, and not to forget those who literally get frustrated over losing events on habbo lmao.

but yeah, don't get me wrong, there isn't a problem with older people using habbo. it just becomes a problem when they're acting like 12 year olds or purposely targeting and bullying people. you would think that doesn't happen though. its a shame it does.

They did, they referenced Facebook and Club Penguin, and the problem with huge online communities like this. Channel 4 continued to attack Habbo because the Sulake CEO is a moron and was denying everything C4 had reported on and was reluctant to change accordingly. Christ knows why he is still CEO, he clearly doesn't know how to do his job and comes off more as a CCO (Chief Communications Officer) than a CEO.

With the matter at hand, Habbo users were incredibly and irrationally defensive of Habbo saying that it isn't a big deal, going as far as trying to divert blame to C4. No-one is sure why because C4 gave Sulake/Habbo the report before the show was aired, but because Sulake/Fortaine denied the issues C4 felt the problem needed to be given the rightful attention, considering Habbo is for children (Under 16s) and could not possibly implement proper safety and security features in what was its state at the time.

When that report came out, it was clear who took Habbo too seriously and who didn't. The language coming from the defensive side was appauling and their lack of reason was shocking.
