NOD-32 www.eset.com (http://www.eset.com)

http://www.eset.com/images/DIAGRAM_ThreatSense_110706.png

Download : http://www.eset.com/download/index.php

This is a 30 day trail, home and buisness downloads are aviable.

Description 1 NOD32 PC/Workstation Licence:

1 year: £23.00
2 years: £35.00
3 years:£46.00

I use this AV and there is a update at least once or twice a day to protect againist viruses. This AV works on 32 bit and 64 bit systems. They have already realeased there vista version aswell

Avast http://www.avast.com/

Download: http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html

This is a 60 day trial before you buy. You have to register to get it for free.

There is no set price to this product but you can calculate it Here (http://www.avast.com/eng/calculator.html) if you wish to buy it

I used this before i went to Nod-32 and its a good AV and i recommend it aswell, this also works on 32 and 64 bit systems. There is no news on when the vista version is realeased for avast but then again the XP version may work on vista.

AVG http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

Download : http://www.grisoft.com/doc/trial/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

This is a 30 day trial.

Buy: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/products/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

There is many versions of this AV and you choose what the best one is for you, the price range varys on which product you buy. I have never used it myself but it has good reviews. I am not sure about a vista realease again it may be the same as avast and may run on vista already

Free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Download: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/28415/lng/us/tpl/v5

This is a simple version of AVG for free.

Kaspersky http://www.kaspersky.com/

Download: http://www.kaspersky.com/uk/trials

This is a 30 day trial.

Buy: http://www.kaspersky.com/store

Again there is differant products for everyone needs, this version does work on vista as my friend uses it, there will be a update for it in a month or so and it will be a vista version. Again i have not used this product but it is known to do its job.

Norton http://www.symantec.com/index.htm

Download: http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/downloads/index.jsp

15 day trials now. Was 30.

Buy: http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/category.jsp?pcid=is

I used this about 3 years ago it really isnt good if you still have a slow pc, hogs ram and alot of hard drive space. They update daily aswell, this version doesn't currently work on vista but they will realease one soon i guess.

Zone Alarm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp

15 day trial (Zone Alarm Pro.)

Or, you can download the basic Zone Alarm for free.

I suggest not using Norton atall, it's absolute crap.

actually no its not absoluety crap its just the fact it rogs RAM and memory the updates are regular and the virus database is huge, it has a bigger one than nod32 but nod32 targets differant things in viruses then norton and norton goes for the known virus as others go for possible parts of a known virus to a unknown virus :)

Reasons to hate Norton and Mcafee

1. Lots of icons - Confusing for users
2. Hogs memory - slowing processing of other applications
3. Spams for updates every boot up
4. Once un-installed leaves memory traces, which spam for you to re-purchase

Overall Anti-Virus Ratings
Not even in top 20

Poor...

I suggest not using Norton atall, it's absolute crap.

NOrtan Antivirus,
NAV.
Is Pretty good.
It provides,
A firewall (which lets you Advancly custimize the settings)
A Powerful Scanner and Worm protection plan.
Internet Security.
Back-up coverage
And Updates DO NOT lag your PC. You must have a pretty bad PC if it does.

Please dont diss NAV. Its not the best, its not bad. Its 8/10 outta me.

Right now, I'd say Norton is crap. It can't even remove the viruses on my computer, and when I contacted an Symantec analysist, they said it was $100 US just to remove it, when that is the program's job right?

Anyone recommend me a good anti-virus program that will remove things like "Downloader, "Vundo.Trojan", "Trojan horse".. and that kind of stuff. Its been on my computer and its really annoying now.

Thanks

hijackthis is slightly harder than the other ones you named there...

I recommend Panda. May not of heard of it, but I usually scan all suspicious files with www.virustotal.com (http://www.virustotal.com) and it's method isn't finding well known viruses. It may take longer than some AVs but it looks through all the coding for tons of different types of viruses.

Just wanted to say, I have always used Avast, and it's perfect. I have been using it for over 4 years and have had no problems with it. I use the free version and it is so simple to use and removes spyware as well as virus's. I recomend it to anyone.

Also, Avast does work on vista, but you need to manually unblock it from the windows firewall. To do this Start> Control panel > Let a programme through windows firewall (In security). Then tick avast/alwil software.

The best two at the moment would have to be Nod32 and Kapersky, but there not in the freemarket

The best free Anti-virus' would be Avira and Avast, really nothing will 100% protect you, just be carefull on what you download or use Sandboxie

You really need the link to Comodo there, its probably the best free firewall/anti-virus out there
