all of the numbers which divide exactly into a number. Example: the factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12

prime number - a whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two whole number factors, 1 and itself. the first five prime numbers are 2,3,5,7, and 11.

prime factor - prime numbers that are factors of an integer.

if you ever want to remember them in an exam, think of a factory, that puts the factors of things together, like a chocolate bar, it puts the cocoa, milk, sugar and everything together.

and if it was a number 42 factory it would use 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 14 to make 42s.
