It was supposed to be India versus Pakistan, but today the 2 minnows put on a performance for around 15,000 jubilant fans (the high crowd is because tickets were FREE after 11am :o).
After peaking 243 - 7 (with William Porterfield top scoring on 85) off their 50 overs, it seemed a respectable total for Ireland to defend. (They also had 4 run outs during the innings)
Bangladesh got off to a decent start, keeping up with the Required R/R, but in the end the wickets kept tumbling, and after their dangerman Ashraful (still only 17?!) was out for 35 off 36 balls, their innings seem to get worse and worse from that point onwards.
The captain Bashar was last to go for 32, leaving Bangladesh on a sore 169 all out off 41.2 overs
As a result of this match, Ireland will now be above Bangladesh in the Super 8 table with 1 game each to go. Also, Ireland will now be an official ICC ODI ranked team as they have beaten 2 test teams (Pakistan and Bangladesh) in the past year.
Well done to Trent Johnson and his team!
