Since he's too lazy to make an account :P
He told me to post it on here.

(x x 5) - 9 = (x x 3) - 12

What is the value of x

(x x 5) - 9 = (x x 3) - 12

What is the value of x

-9x - 45 = -12x - 36
-9x +12x = 45 - 36
3x = 9
x = 3/9 ~ simplify this
x = 1/3

Hope this helps

i get a different answer

(x x 5) - 9 = (x x 3) - 12 is the same as writing:

5x - 9 = 3x - 12

Then if u put x's on the left and numbers on the right:

5x - 3x = -12 + 9

2x = -3

x = -3/2

x = -1.5

the first one is x as in the letter, and second is x as in multiplication

2x = -3

x = -3/2

x = -1.5

you can't multiply x by 5

thats not how you do it

If you check the answer I get:

(-1.5 x 5) - 9 = (-1.5 x 3) - 12

-7.5 - 9 = -4.5 - 12

-16.5 = -16.5

If you check the answer I get:

(-1.5 x 5) - 9 = (-1.5 x 3) - 12

-7.5 - 9 = -4.5 - 12

-16.5 = -16.5

you might actually be right
I did this early in the morning and read the "minus 9" as a negative

i'm kind of old and haven't done this math in a little while lol

my work is acurate if they were negative numbers... otherwise

look at alex's work

sorry, I did in fact read it wrong

I would've said that this was correct answer

I think its this:
-9x - 45 = -12x - 36
-9x +12x = 45 - 36
3x = 9
x = 9/3
x = 3 ..
That seems like the right answer to me Lol

URGH! Maths is so annoying! More than half of the stuff you learn won't even be used in your whole life :rolleyes:

I think its this:
-9x - 45 = -12x - 36
-9x +12x = 45 - 36
3x = 9
x = 9/3
x = 3 ..
That seems like the right answer to me Lol

ya man, definately, i didn't even check it over, i just did it cause i was bored... but you my friend are correct

That is correct, but it's using the wrong equation

The original equation was (x x 5) - 9 = (x x 3) - 12
Which is the same as 5x - 9 = 3x - 12
