Is it London and Parts of Kent near London? I hope not. Is it like, ALL of London, and arent there parts which urgently need electricity, like Big Bens lighting?

1) It takes more energy to turn the light off, then on quite soon.
2) What is the point?
3) I don't even live in London anyway
4) We cannot see in the dark

And many more points. ;)

Flisker

But if you turn off lights not alot of electric will be used and if everyone turn there lights off its like taking 3/4 of a million cars of the road...

No, because the majority of people nowadays use power-saving bulbs. Which hardly uses any power and turning them off, then on again takes up more than just leaving them on.

isn't the big brother house in hertfordshire though?

wont make any difference, 1 hour?

Given that there are well over 40 million lightbulbs in London, you'd be quite surprised.

Now if I was a thief I would love that. No lights on at all for an hour, prime time to do some stealing hey?

Sad southern Londoners 'Lets save electric by turning the lights off for one hour' hmm yeah, great idea....

Edit: Just thought wont there be a power surge if everyone in London did it? :l

Global Warming doesn't exist, so they are all wasting their time :)

I think a town or city in the UK does that all the time? Or it was something planned at least, it's vaguely in my mind somewhere. I think it is a good idea, but not really for pollution as such. The thought of looking towards my town and not seeing an orange glow would be quite nice :)

Basically, street lamps go off between 22:00 and 06:00. Or something like that.

Allow that
It is allowed as far as I know. They're doing it.

Actually, he makes up a fair point. Global Warming to the Government is us doing damage to the planet. In reality, we are only slightly speeding it up. Global Cooling and Global Warming are just how the planet goes.

well the earth has been going through periods of global warming & cooling for millions of years. Global warming is going to happen regardless.

You do realise that whether or not people use the electricity it is still constantly generated at the power stations at similar levels. The amount of power generated doesn't fluctuate depending on the demand.

The only way of saving energy would be for the demand for electricity to fall consistently such that the power companies decided to slow down the operation of the power plant.

So i'd like you to explain how all the other Ice Ages and Warm periods came please, because there weren't any factorys then!

The planet has always been warming and cooling, OMG ITS WARMING EVER SO SLIGHTLY NOW THAT MEANS ITS ALL OUR FAULT - It's not.

I read somewere that the Ice Caps haven't been as thin as they are now since about 100+ years ago, funny how people like Al Gore don't mention things like it was happening years ago before we had any factorys.

I've think you've ruined his dream of thinking dinosaurs drove cars, plane and created factories. Meany :P

It is kinda pointless exercise, the only thing I can see that is good about it is that the orange glow in the sky would of slightly disappeared.
