Just to let you know, Media Studies is a worthless subject right now so don't have confidence in it because you will not get a job with it or even get into University. I think you should focus on your English and Science a lot. Personally I have had no problems with Year 10 :)

@undertaker: kick him whilst he's down why don't you.. breath of fresh air you are.. You're life may be oh so ''perfect''..

But unlike you people find year 10 very hard, i agree it is very hard mate. But keep revising and listening at school, and you'll be fine :).

Focus on the subjects you are less good at and attend revision classes before exams. Also make sure you ask the teacher if you are stuck with questions :)

It needs to be said, all the kids who took Media Studies a few years ago can't get jobs now as the subject is worthless and there are nowhee near enough jobs to go around.

At above, what I meant was, I work hard and revise, no matter how much I hate it, and those are the predicted grades I got.

Also, I got a C, and he said it was bad, but i'm proud of it. :)

It works well with Art or English too.
At GCSE, it's not going to get you a job, but if you have an A Level in it, it can help you go to University to study it. Someone with a Degree, even in media studies, is more likely to get a job than someone who isn't.

Predictions are normally wrong. You are just starting Year 10 and you are being predicted for grades in just over a years time? Just think how much better you will get, you haven't even done a quater of your GCSEs yet so there is still loads of time.

Year 11 isn't special either, but you will be able to expand on your knowledge. Also, if they give you bad predictions it will make you work really hard to get really high marks. I got a little cocky and fluffed it up. Don't do the same as I did :)

I have already said, Universitys won't even acknowledge Media Studies when people are applying for the University.

Want to provide me with some proof for that?
All these (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Universities+Media+Studies&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB) universities offer media studies.

And besides, what's wrong with studying subjects because you enjoy them? I take A level Art and Photography. I don't need them. I'll never use them.

Yeah, but there are 3 other units as well.

And he can only get an A if he does pass, merit and distinction.

You can't do any better than your best. You should focus and just try - don't let it get you down and if needed ask your teacher to explain it more, like go to them at lunch, breaks, after school etc.

Hope this helps ;) Keep your chin up...

True, for now - but in the future, near future, demand will be high and those degrees will be worth more than your house.

that's absolute crap btw lol
it's only some of the snobbish unis see it as a soft subject, along with business studies and one or two other subjects
80/90% of colleges/universities still accept it as a normal subject.

find out the best way that you learn
- by being told something
- acually doing something
- or watching someone do something
then do your work that way

I hate it when people who don't try get good grades, and then there is people like you who put in 100%, but the grades dont show that.

In my opinion, you should concentrate on your English and Art. It is your examiner who will mark your exam, not your teacher so if you truely are good at it you should get a good grade.

Looks like your doing OK in Maths, and a A*-C in Maths is what most college courses, and even uni's want. They also want English Language, so you need to make sure you get at least a C in that :) Just make sure you give 100% in class, listen carefully, do homework, when you get home look through your notes. I know it's hard, but it will be worth it when you get a C.

And don't listen to Undertaker about Media being worthless - As long as you have 5 A*-C (and it don't matter which ones, as long as they include English and Maths) you're employable, and can get onto almost any college course.

Good Luck :)

So in the meantime the people who wanted a career in Media but can't get one because there's not enough jobs can sit by for the next 30 years.

They don't ban it... Lots of them offer courses that specialise in media. Just because it's a bit more vocational than it is academic doesn't mean it's "soft". It depends what you enjoy doing and what kind of future careers you're interested in. I also agree with whoever said that employers will look more favourably upon people who completed a university degree pertaining to media than someone who didn't bother going to uni at all.

You're wrong.

Taking this from someone who's in their 4th year of Media Studies (so GCSE first, then AS, now A2) and is planning to go on to do it at University (4 out of 5 applications of which were successful) it's going to be a very helpful, useful topic, because some people don't realise the diversity of media.
Media isn't just Tv, film & magazines. Media has now varied into a wide range of different area's. People use you for advertising, not just for television, but also for radio, the internet, newspapers. People use you for coding skills within website design (so ICT & media studies together is going to be a huge bonus to you in the future, anyone who is interested). People use you for radio technology. People use you for camerawork, either still images or moving image, even editing images (producing). People use you for Music videos, people use you for music cutting, people use you for film cutting.
And in Britain, do you see a majority of mainstream films being broadcast in cinema's as blockbusters? Atonement is the most recent one and is going on to storm the ocsars and bafta's. But in the bafta's, "This is England" has 2 nominations, the director, Shane Meadows, has been huge within Europe with films like Dead Man's Shoes, but in Britain, doesn't get a look in because his films aren't made with household names.

Back to the thread starter :).
Year 10 is a good time to make inroads into your grades for GCSE, use the essays wisely, take all the advice you can on your work and add to it. I was, at the beginning of Year 11, predicted an E for Chemistry, I managed to get a C at the end of the year. It's not impossible, you just need some belief in yourself. :)

I personally am finding year 10 quite easy, apart from English.

You should try different revision techniques to help yourself.

Like I personally revise with loud music on but that doesn't work for me so just try lots of different things and see what's right for you.

We couldn't take ICT in our school. :( My favourite subject from all the years before, :(

College is a *****. =P I got predicted good grades, but I fell slack on some but I still got what I needed to get into College. GCSE's are just your keys to what you really need in life: A-Levels & Degrees.

About all thjis media by the way, my uncle sent me a large document evaluating 2006 & 2007, which predicts what will happen in the market for 2008.

Changes in Vacancies:

Oil & Energy - up 57.1% - (highest perecentage)
Public sector - up 17.4%
law - up 1.2%
Media - down 23.1%
armed forces - down 29.2%

Total job apps by finalists (graduates) in 2006-7

Media - 13.4% (highest percentage)
Teaching - 12.7%
IT - 4.4%
Property - 2.6%

Elements very important to first employers

Gaining a profesional qual - 32% (highest percentage)
responsibility for managing other people - 19%

That was a shortend version, but you get the drift. Media is highly competitive with hardly any jobs going. Figure it out.
