Hello,

I'm moving into a new house soon and I'm going to be changing ISP as AOL isn't very good.... I don't need an offer like "free router" as I already have one. I just want unlimited downloads, good support, great stability and as fast speeds as possible.

So, have fun voting what you think is your best provider, and post reasons and comments below!

Thanks for anyone who votes' help in this decision.

Errr, providers vary on how reliable and good they are depending on the area, so this won't be too useful to you really... But I am with Orange, which is really good in my opinion, they upgrade us for free all the time :D

I wish I could get Virgin Media, however we can't get cable in our area! :(

Minty could you do me a favour and show a speed test? Thanks :)

Same for anyone with BT... and preferably at a peak time. Much appreciated.

Also, I heard virgin media isn't very reliable.

You get a copy and paste option at the end of the test which shows what the results are.

Im on talktalk here, its ok.

But back home my parents use Virgin Media, which I think is the best.
I have heard Plus.Net has the best customer service.

Don't go with Orange They are the worst ISP I have ever been with. Their tech support didn't know a thing, we had problems and all they knew what to do was 'ok lets restart the router'. or 'lets wipe the settings and try again'

After we just changed to talktalk (with out finishing the contract lol)

That's really weird, because Orange are unbelievably good for me and my family :S Free upgrades, fast and effective service for when we set up the router and when there were issues they were dealt with within minutes :S

BeThere/o2 (they're both using Be's network) so go straight to BeThere the supplier. If you can't get it then Virgin Media or Plusnet.

Just wait till you get problems. Do the free upgrades mean you have a new contract? And beware of the "PPP Server Down" error

What I've gathered so far, looking at top ISPs are:

Bethere(/o2 - might get that as theres a discount on it for o2 customers)
BT
TalkTalk

Never had any issues other than when we installed a router, but that was solved within minutes of phoning them up and telling them we had a router, and I've been with Orange ever since they took over Wanadoo. The free upgrades just happen. When mum logged into her Orange account it said "You have been upgraded to 8mb, free of charge. This is the maximum your phone line can support" or something along those lines.

That's why I find it odd that people have issues with Orange, because the service they provide for the family is incredibly good :P

Ahh, I had it back when it was Wanadoo too.
I think you've been quite lucky with your service.

How comes people are having issues lol?! I guess I had a few minor issues with the 2mb connection, where it would disconnect once a fortnight, but it wasn't disruptive. Must be very lucky :P

Very. But like I said, moving over to o2. £7.50 a month like 3x cheaper then orange :)

I was thinking of moving from AOL (having same trouble) but after spending ages looking for an alternative, i figured it was easier just too stick out the downtime and wait for them to move servers. Bought myself a T-Mobile modem, incase it goes down, (so far not had to use it) £4 a day. Easy! :D
I found that with most of the big ones, Sky, BT, Virgin etc. there were plenty of people who rated them and plenty who hated them, just a lottery of which side you'll be on.

That's cheap! Not sure how much my family pays towards our internet... But we may have loyalty benefits for being with them since Freeserve :P

I agree with you 24. The big ones are expected to do a good service, and when they don't they are immediately hated. You cannot really get a good answer as to which one you should go for, you just have to pick one and hope it works ok for you in your area.

I'm on Orange, have been since freeserve/wanadoo/any other names they've had.
No complaints though! Found customer support to be quite good, actually. Fast & reliable. Just been moved up to 8mb.
