Reckon this is the correct subforum.
Anyone have any idea what I'd be looking to shell out for a 49cc scooter?
Can't be bothered with driving lessons atm, nor the bus.

Well how much have you got to spend?

Not really sure. Looking as cheap as I can, up to something half decent really.
Not wanting to spend a lot on one - just want one for messing about on.
Obviously not like £100, but a few £100?

You'll nead to bear in mind that you require it to be taxed and insured as well.

Well tax is only 15 quid for a year and at 16 im insured FPO for 197 quid on mine
Have a look on ebay and stay away from speedfight's and all 4stroke 50cc scooters as pedal bike will beat them in a race ;]

At 16 does it need to be restricted to 30mph?

Yeah if you buy a 50cc ped new it will be restricted to 30MPH but second hand ones will most likely been derestricted

Na doesn't work like that... Some scooters are way over priced you can pick 110cc bikes up new for half the price of scooters.....
I fly around doing 60mph all the time I just brake like mad if a police car is near ;) 30mph is a dangerous speed trust me, when I was running my bike in at 30mph every car over took me ;\

My dad has a 49cc moped from 1973 (FS1E Yamaha) and that can do 60, and thats still a restricted speed due to the age. With a sports exhaust etc they can be pused to around 70. But that did cost £3k cause it's rare. I've been looking at scooters and the ones I've looked at were around £500 (Aprillas).
