Lewis Hamilton will be presented with a Global Diversity Award on Tuesday in recognition of the way he dealt with racial abuse during a pre-season test in Spain.

The McLaren driver was subjected to vile taunting by sections of the crowd at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona in February, an incident that caused media and political outrage in the UK.

In response the FIA warned the Spanish motorsport authorities that any such behaviour at either of its grands prix would not be tolerated and launched an anti-racism drive, 'Every Race'.

The awards ceremony in London is being held by the Next Steps Foundation, an organisation set up 10 years ago to encourage diversity in both the public and private sectors.

The dinner will be attended by Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband and Culture minister Andy Burnham.
