He just won the gold medal for the 400m individual medley (swimming) and beat the world record by like 1.4. What an outstanding performance.

Yeah, I just saw that. It was so close. Brilliant performace though. I'm looking forward to all of his other events.

That Phelps/Jaws thing they keep playing is so funny. :P

Retired, plus the fact he was never an IM swimmer anyway.

About the 4x100m race, good swim from team GB even though they finished last. On the old world record pace all the way (3:12) and I believe a new british record for them.

Mr.Sam

I think he make it to 8.That makes no sense, we have good swimming facilities in the UK and from what I can gather Team GB works hard to get the best out of people. I guess Phelps probably wouldn't of won the relay if he was British but that's just a silly and uneducated comment.

He just won his fourth gold medal, making him the greatest Olympian ever with his total of 10 gold's. He was looking a little sloppy though and didn't seem happy with his performance, even though he still broke the world record. As he has done in every final so far.

The Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay Final is at 4:19am, which he is also competing in. He's on at 1:13pm in heat 6 of the Men's 200m Individual Medley. Three events in one day, he must be getting tired.

USA just won by 5 seconds, which is a lot in swimming. Broke the world record by miles as well. Phelps got ahead straight away. How is he so good!? How does he get ahead of everyone else!? Five gold's now, three to go. He didn't look tired at all in this event.

Great Britain did quite well, but ended up 6th.

If you watch him in his starts and turns, he spends alot of time under water. That is where you can make a difference, as it is the fastest part of the swim. I used to swim, and my coach always said to do well on the starts and turns, sadly I did not listen .

Ah, I see. I'll pay more attention to his starts and turns then. :P I can't believe how good he is compared to everyone else though. Everyone else seems to finish around roughly the same time, but Phelps is already a mile ahead. Aparrently some people aren't competing in the Olympics because they can't beat him.

Great Britain did quite well, but ended up 6th.Drugs perhaps? I must admit it would be the funniest thing ever if he was on performance enhancing drugs but I think it's unlikely as he'll almost certainly be tested.

I saw his first race last night and fell to sleep just before his second, he didn't look too pleased when he broke the record since he had trouble with his goggles the commentators were saying. Was he tired after the relay?

I used to do a lot of swimming for clubs too, reasonable success but it took too much dedication in my life so it had to go. In freestyle your not meant to spend too long under water unlike on backstroke, butterfly and breast stroke, but he does so strong kicks he can afford to stay under water in freestyle.

Yeah, his goggles leaked on his first race. He still won gold and beat the world record, but I think he was disappointed because he knew he could go faster. He was cheering and yelling with his team mates after they won the relay though. He didn't seem tired at all. :P

Why did he need to get 8 btw?Mark Spitz (American Swimmer also) got 7 gold medals in a single Olympic games in Munich during the 70s. Michael Phelps aimed for 8 golds to beat Spitz's record of 7 golds in one games. There's a chance if Phelps continues and takes up more events such as some sprints and long distance events he could aim for perhaps 10 golds in 2012 but he'll probably be past his peak.
