First one, Times everything on top by 7 and everything on bottom by 3. That will cancel the x's out and will leave 56y = -7 and -18 y = 141. Then you add the 56 and 18 (Two - = +) and that gives you 74, so 74y = (Add the -7 and 141 so its 134). Then you work out y so y = 134/74 = 1.81 re-occuring, which sounds really wrong so don't take my word on that LOL. Other way is to substitute, so you find out Y = Something by moving the other digits to the other side, and then you substitute that into the other one by replacing Y with what you get. It sounds long so I'm not sure. The ones right at the bottom, I'm too tired to explain right now lol, good luck!

1st 4....
check them to ake sure they are rght, i may have lied ;)

1. x = 5 y = -2
2. p = 6 q = 4
3. When p = 4, q = 2 and when p = 5, q = 4
4. x = -2.4 and y = -5.5

Fine ill do it again...

PART ONE
___________________________________________

3x+8y=-1 ------- Equation 1
7x-6y=47 ------- Equation 2

(1)x3 -- 9x+24y=-3
(2)x4 -- 28x-24y=188
(28+9)x=37x -- (188+(-3))=185
37x = 185
x = 185/37
x = 5

Substitute x=5 into equation 1

3x+8y=-1
15+8y=-1
8y=-16
y = -2

So u can figure rest out

Orite, He did the Y's, i did the X's. If you do that method but with Y's then you get the answer yeahh.

Right firstly with simultaneous equations you'd work them out like so:

3x + 8y = -1
7x - 6y = 47

Because the signs are different (+ and -) we add together the values.

Firstly we need to get at least on set of values the same so lets say the y's.

x3 9x + 24y = -3
x4 28x + 24y = 188

so as we add the values:

37x = 185

185 / 37 = 5

so x=5

if we put that back into the original equation:

15 + 8y = -1
35 - 6y = 47

therefore as 35 take away something cannot be 47 6y MUST be a negative as - and - make a +.

6y therefore must equal:

12 / 6

^ y = -2

we can put this back into the first equation to check:

15 + - 16 = -1

:) I hope you understand that now.

The other ones will work in a similar way however you'll have to do it differently on the graph but just remember the fundamentals as you should think of simultaneous equations as just like on a graph where the intersect is your value :).

I think I've explained this right - just read over whatever notes you took in class etc.

For question 2, use what's called the Elimination method where if it says for example;

y = 4x + 4
36 = x^2 + y^2

Just make it;
36 = x^2 + (4x+4)(4x+4)
from their just solve using "Change the side, change the operation" to get to;
17x^2+32x-20
From their use Quadratic Formula (-b+/-SQAUREROOTOF(b^2-4ac), All divided by 2.
Producing values for X, subbed into an equation to get Y.

Wow thankyou all for your help people I honestly really do appreciate it! I think I get it now and I will do it now, sadly I closed the window and the questions will be different but it will only be different numbers so I'll be able to use my knowledge from what you've just taught me to get the right answers.

Thanks so much!

When are you acutally going to use this stuff outside a maths room?

Unless your going to be a mathmetician

Urgh I hate maths, and I hated that website!
Thank god I don't have to do it anymore. :)
