What licence would i need to legally drive a quad on the road ?

Depends on the engine size ross.
Upto 125cc I think you can use a Provisional and a CBT..
Upto 33bhp on an A2 restricted license at the age of 17.
And finally unrestricted A License at the age of 21.
If you fit into any of those categories you can ride one on the road..
Or.. If you have a full drivers license :) You dont even need to wear a helmet on a quad on the road because it has 4 wheels..

I thought you could only drive on a full car lisence and they are four wheels but i could be so wrong.

Car license... Can't drive them on a CBT and not sure about a bike license

I believe they're classed as a motorcycle by the DVLA because they dont have a cab. A trike has more than 2 wheels and looks like being near to a car but you can use a motorcycle license to drive one of them aswell :)

I guess, when i tired looking it up, it just said you had to be 17 with a full bike lisence. So that means not just your provisinal. It could be wrong though.
I thought it was a car liscence as your not required to wear a helmet either.
