Why do footballers think they are above the law like this, any money he will bloody get away with it aswell, any normal person would get a 6 month stretch or sumin for it.

What makes you say this?

efq
29-12-2008, 12:56 PM
Because they think because their celebs the law doesn't matter to them. Like awhile ago I think it was britney spears was arrested for something to do with a act of driving which broke the law. She was supposed to be arrested for ages but she was released within 1 day. But she said she knew it would happen. They think they can get away with things and Gerrard will prob be released in hours.

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 12:59 PM
Unless you were investigating the case, you don't know what happened. If Gerrard hit the guy or whatever then he'll be treated like anybody else. He's an idol to children, I think he grew up from a very ordinary background, he's a beacon of light to some children who come from working class families. All of these things could be taken into consideration, he's done a lot of charity work etc.

Funya Chin
29-12-2008, 12:59 PM
... but why does it? You're just repeating what you said. So, because a celebrity did something wrong it means they think they're above the law? No. OJ Simpson is one of them who do think he's above the law (not anymore thank Lord) but if Gerrard has done something wrong he'll be dealt with appropriately.

efq
29-12-2008, 01:05 PM
OJ was different, although the Judge said his previous Murder case didn't effect his last trial, I bet it did.

It makes sense, look at a lot of celebritys arrested, they are released almost immedietly. Like I said, Britney got her sentance reduce by a huge amount.
Gerrard and 5 others we're arrested, so we'll see who is released first.

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 01:07 PM
You're giving that one example of Britney, none of us really know exactly what happened. We could choose to believe the Media but even then who's to say they're giving the exact truth.

efq
29-12-2008, 01:08 PM
The Police Spokesmen o.O

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 01:12 PM
A police spokesman would not say "she has done stuff that should see her behind bars for years" simply because they're not allowed. Again, it was probably a newspaper where you read that, journalists have a great skill of hearing what they want to or publishing half of what the guy said.

efq
29-12-2008, 01:16 PM
Skynews is where I watched it and the OJ Simpson trial and likely so will be Steven.G.

We'll wait and see who out of Gerrard and the 5 are released or get the shortest term.

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 01:17 PM
What does that prove though... do you know exactly what each one of them done? No. Gerrard could have just been with the other five who laid into the guy or he might have been the one smashing the guys face in. We do not know, so if he gets released first doesn't mean he's getting away with things because of his celebrity status.

efq
29-12-2008, 01:29 PM
They will tell us, but if he says he did something thats worthy of a longer sentance or even say like Britneys that hes being released early then we obv know.
If they say he was defending himself or was just there at a bad time then they'd say it.

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 01:30 PM
So you're going to believe whatever the media feeds you? They want to cause controversy, they'll probably say he was carrying a knife too.

efq
29-12-2008, 01:32 PM
Every celeb has a Police Spokesmen. I'll await for professional proof, not the medias.
I don't believe much what the Media say.

Immenseman
29-12-2008, 01:40 PM
Yes, but they're not allowed to say "Gerrard was the worst but we released him because of his status" are they.

Because they think because their celebs the law doesn't matter to them.

Terrible English but the fact is you're agreeing that celebs get away with things when they probably didn't do anything in the first place. Hence, you being drawn in by the sensationalism within the media. I'm doing a piece of A Level coursework just on sensationalism so take my word for it ;).

Gerrard charged in assault probe

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45333000/jpg/_45333993_gerrard_getty_body226.jpg Gerrard was arrested in a street close to the Lounge Inn

England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been charged with assault and affray following a disturbance outside a Merseyside nightclub.

The 28-year-old was arrested along with five other men near the Lounge Inn in Southport in the early hours of Monday.

A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries, not thought to be life-threatening.

John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19, both from Huyton, Liverpool, have also been charged and bailed over the incident.

All three will appear at North Sefton Magistrates' Court on 23 January, accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

Two goals

Three other men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police has charged Steven Gerrard, 28 years, of Formby, Sefton, John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19 years, both from Huyton, Liverpool, with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray following an incident at Bold Street in Southport in the early hours of Monday, December 29.

"The three men will be appearing at North Sefton Magistrates' Court on January 23."

After the game on Sunday the Liverpool FC captain, who scored twice, hailed his side as the best he has played in.
Gerrard has been capped by England 70 times and has captained his country four times. He was made an MBE last year and received an honorary fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University.

I agree, but he could have been really drunk - When your drunk you've got no control of your actions.

The most he will get is a fine and probably pay compensation to the guy he assaulted.

I don't think he will end up doing a 6 months prison sentence as what Joey Barton did but wouldn't that be great if it did happen! :P

Sorry to piss on your bonfires, but he won't be going to jail. From what I've seen, he has been charged with ABH, not GBH which is the more serious offence. Therefore he'll be likely to get fined/tagged/community service at the very most. Then they'll have to take into account that it's probably his first offence and that he's a pillar of the community with all his charity work etc away from football...

He hasn't been charged with it yet, also, it depends on a lot on the sentence, if he was provoked, if he was hit first, if he was even there, if it was him who hit/kicked the person who was assaulted. You obviously have no idea what your on about when it comes to the law and how police / courts work.
