Sir Alex Ferguson has renewed his call for England to adopt a winter break.

"Managers have always voiced their opinions in favour of a winter break," said the Manchester United boss, arguing a break would lessen injuries.

"The trouble is players carry their strains right through January, then when you get to March it turns into an injury of significance."

Ferguson would like to see any winter break scheduled between the New Year Day games and the end of January.

"You don't want to lose that impact of getting people into the grounds over the Christmas period," added Ferguson, speaking ahead of United's FA Cup fourth round match against Tottenham.

"But we could re-start with an FA Cup tie, which would add a bit of excitement to it after a winter break. That is what they do in Germany."

Ferguson pointed to the shutdown of the Bundesliga in January as a reason why the German national team has been so successful. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gif

"Germany always do well in the World Cup," said Ferguson. "I don't want to be critical of them because I admire
what they have achieved in international football.

"Even one of their poorest teams by their standards have got to the later stages of the World Cup.
"There must be some link to that freshness and fitness."

Totally agree, would be good for sport.

How did they get a break when they went over to Japan, Minstrels? They were still playing football consistently.

so dont come back crying for a break.I don't see Pity winning any cups recently, so I guess you wouldn't feel the urge. Right now you're just trying to survive in the premier league ;)

Every team needs a break. They train every day and play a 90 minute match every week, it takes it's toll. Do you know what it's like to physically exercise, Minstrels?

We won a cup at the start of the season. Infact we won two.

And physical exercise? Indeed I do. Why? Want to ask me how to do it so you can go out and do some? I'll help you in any way I can.

Once again your facts are wrong, fergi has said EVERY Year he has been manager he feels there is need for winter break. So he has not just come crying back asking for a break.

You seriously need to get your facts right.

On par with the Pot Noodle you won then.
Super fit? You do realize that many men who take the piss out of people involving fitness normally do it to hide their own weight. I'm hardly a "blob" mate.
