Well my bro's getting a new car and well he wants a Volkswagen Golf..

Hes got 5000 to spend but prefer's the car to be around 4000-4500ish
Needs to be below 1.9
and any petrol or deisel

I've got a 1.9 GT TDI 130bhp, silver 52 plate 80k on the clock. Really nice to drive, it's got good power delivery and bags of torque.. really fun to drive. I'm selling it actually for what it's valued at, 4.3k (put it back to standard as I'm getting another one)

Make sure he gets at least a 1 month warranty from the garage that he buys it from (assuming that he will buy it from a garage). It must be horrible when people save up for a car and then the car goes wrong, especially when they have no other money to fix it.

He won't get the new shape for that price... The new shape has only just come out :S Or do you mean, the general shape of the current one between 2006-2009 (the new one technically the same shape, just different lights, grill etc)?

i've currently got the mk4 lol, i believe he meant the mk5 ie 06-09, but I want another mk4, but with a different engine.

get the 1600 (16v) over the 1400 (8v), twice the valves and better trim options.. the 2.0 (8v) GTI has the gti trim, brakes etc but it's not much faster than the 1600 (but has better interior, options etc).. don't expect it to be fast because it's got a GTI badge.. it's not. The only fast mk4 GTIs are the 1.8T (20v) 150 & 180.

The 1.4E is really poverty spec.. windy windows, manual mirrors, crap seats, no A/C, no trip computer, etc etc.. it doesn't even have a cup holder. The 1.4SE has the same engine but with more options if you know what I mean (leccy windows and that)

Insurance groups:
1.4 - Group 4
1.6 S - Group 5
1.6 16V S / 1.6 16V SE - Group 6
2.0 GTI - Group 10
1.8 GTI (non-turbo, sloww) - Group 10
1.8T 20V GTI (turbo'd) - Group 14

you'll easily get one under 5k dude :)

Have got a 6grand budget now, maybe 100-200 over.

Still cant find a decent car. I found 2 but they both sold this weekend!
Ive tried everywhere
Gumtree, Autotrader, Pistonheads, Some local garages.

Any other places to try?

it'll be a 1.9 GT TDI, they don't make a 2.0 in the mk4 (apart from the petrol) but really nice car.. I've got the GT TDI 130bhp and it's great, stronger engine than the 150 but less power.

i dont think your saxo would keep up with your brothers lol, mine will lick vts's and your bro's is faster ;)

yh mk5 shape. He got one for 5,500 04 reg, 1.4!

Its relli good =]
