Edwin van der Sar has been given compassionate leave by Manchester United (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/manchester-united) to be with his wife after she suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Annemarie van Kesteren has been described as "very poorly" after collapsing on 23 December. She has been in hospital ever since and United have told Van der Sar to take as long as he needs before returning to play in goal.

****** el, wish him and his wife all the best.

Think he's defo gunna retire at the end of the season after this.

That sucks. Best of luck to her and hopefully VDS gets back soon. It'd be a shame to see such a quality goalkeeper stay out of the EPL.

IT depends how is wife recovers and what united do this season i think he will call it a day if she s still ill and we don't do much. He has kids as well so it looks like he is looking after them full time too. Shame to see him go if he does since he is the first good one she Schmicheal(sp) imo.
