Hey I'm stuck on this from a past paper:


Expand and simplify: (√3+√15)²

Give your answer in the form n+m√5, where n and m are integers.

It's a long time since I've done any maths like this so forgive me if I'm wrong

(√3+√15)² = (√3+√15)(√3+√15)

Then you need to expand the brackets out. Doing so you get this:

√9 + √45 + √45 + √225

This then goes to

3 + 3√5 + 3√5 + 15

Which equals (18 + 6√5)
