Poll above!

I honestly feel that Darts is a sport it could be classed as a recreational activity. But I do feel that darts is a sport, there is a world champion and there is a lot of matches played. However, some people do not think of it as a sport, if you think that then surely things like snooker isn't a sport either. Snooker is like darts, it takes time dedication and a good level of accuracy!

What do you think?

don't know because when i think of sport i think of like active excersise and all darts is is jolting your arm slightly

having said that the disctionary meaning says 'an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature'

so i guess it is a sport

1. They aren't farmers.
2. It's an olympic sport so why would farmers do it! :)
3. It's Called Skeet shooting, they are referred to as clay pigeons the 'discs'

Good argument.

These darts 'athletes' are just obese males in their late 40s who couldn't run for their life. Its not Sporty, Athletic or Exercise, it's a waste of time.

sport none the less

Since when was throwing something not physical?

It may not be particularly physically exerting, but it's still physical.

My opinion totally, all you do is throw a piece of metal at a board. Sport is something active, darts is not a sport in my opinion.

I voted no, simply because I think it doesn't meet the physical activity requirements in order to qualify as a sport in my mind :P

So some people say no, some say it's just fat people throwing things. Well I'll tell you for one, who cares if they are fat? They are real people who take an interest in the SPORT. It's physical activity, it improves arm muscles a bit, but saying it's JUST fat people is totally annoying. Look at Simon Whitlock, James Wade, they aren't fat they are really skinny but they take a lot of dedication in the SPORT!

I for one do thing it is a sport in the top level. They have a season just like football, they have world chapions just like tennis. So why should it not be a sport. If you say it's lacking in physical ability it is a bit, but so is snooker, pool and quite a few other sports that are out there.

Also, fat people may not be able to run, so darts could be a recreational activity for them, they can't swim, cycle, participate in other sports so darts can be specialised for them. I think they are really good at what they do, look at Phil Taylor for example, he is quite chubby but he is really rich, he wins most tournaments going and is a 15 time world champion. Same with Ramond Van Barniveld, he's from the Netherlands but he is EXTREMELY good at darts.

But my original point is, darts takes practice, dedication and I do think it's a sport. They are sports players, they are just like other sports players and I bet they are on the Television a lot more than some big named sports!

yes technically its a sport, but i dont think it should be

you associate sport with running around and using energy, and darts does neither of those things

and at sam (above), yes snooker and pool is a sport atm, but maybe they shouldnt be either

Samantha
24-08-2010, 09:31 PM
you are wrong.

Excuse me, I am voicing my opinion, an opinion isn't wrong. Maybe if you pointed out the details what makes me wrong it may improve your post?

Darts is classed as a sport, it takes concentration and years of practice. If you don't want to believe me that's fine, but I will tell my opinion in the thread I made. Ok.

And Matt just because you don't run around and stuff doesn't mean it's any less a sport than football. I could say that football includes too much physical sport and contact so it isn't a sport. But I won't.

In a way it's your opinion if you think a sport is a sport. It's your opinion if you think pool, snooker, archery, etc is a sport. You can't change your opinion, you shouldn't be made to change. Since when did we live in a world where you can't follow your heart. I personally love darts, tennis and football. I find them enjoyable to watch and I loved meeting Phil 'The Power' Taylor. But just because they aren't as active as some sports doesn't make it any less.

lol I voted yes. Anything that depends on a physical skill that can be practiced and honed deserves to be called a sport. I've never played nor do I have any interest in doing so, but I can't think of any reason to refuse it the title of being a sport. I have problems throwing people their keys, so anyone that throws objects into a tiny circle seems talented and sporty to me :P

I'd class it as a sport that I'd take part in because you can drink while in the game.

Seems like more of a game than a sport. The day it's introduced to the Olympics is the day I'll start calling it a sport.

Yes. Definition of sport: Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Therefore darts is a sport.
