The topic of this thread is basically, what jobs or careers do you have in mind for the future? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What interests you in that job?

Personally, I fancy doing something with law, I have a lawyer or solicitor in mind but I guess i'm going to have to have a good think about it as time is running out. It interests me because the money and because I feel i'd suit the job well.

Investment banker turn hedge fund manager. Hopefully earn enough to retire at 50, then possibly run for MP.

I reckon I'd be good because numbers are naturally easy for me. I can do complicated calculations in my head. The money is obviously pretty good, and can be incredible if I work hard. I'm interested in money/banking etc. so it suits me.

Funnily enough, a few teachers said to me today, "why don't you go into politics? You're very interested in it." So might try and do the same thing as you, run for MP later on.

English Teacher! Wanted to be a teacher since I was in year 3, English teacher since year 9!

And an author - but you can't really make a living off that. If that's successful enough, I plan to retire from work at around 30 and go into writing full time ;)

10 years from now I see myself within the same job, but different profession.
I'm currently in the Army, have been for just under 3 years, I joined as REME (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineer), however since last year I've been in the process and training to become RMP (Royal Military Police) so hopefully by next year I'll be half way through my training, and I think I'll stick to that until I retire!

Why? I always wanted to be a Police officer, as most kids do at the age of 8, dressing up in a police outfit arresting family members because they didn't put the toilet seat down :) - Well that never stopped for me (the desire to apply for police - not arresting family members lol) I want to be Traffic Police so with a bit of luck I'll make it there within 2-3 years from now.

Why didn't I join in as RMP when I joined Army??? - Because I was only 17 when I joined and I knew my chances of getting into RMP was slim, as they are looking for people with life experience and whatnot... Mortgage, marriage, divorce etc.. would be very patronizing if a 17 year old Police officer goes to a domestic and tries to give advice on things when they haven't been through it themselves! would just cause more conflict.

I plan to be an educational psychologist or a teacher. I've recently decided that I definitely want to work with children, I would be more interested in eventually going into being an Educational Psychologist however there are only a few unis who run doctorates in such courses so you need a damn good application to get in, so depending on what degree classification I get I will either go straight to a doctorate in educational psychology which will lead be to being a Doctor of Educational Psychology earning quite a bit of money investigating how and why children learn how they do, when they do - what schools can do to make it better for children and of course my main area of interest - improving the education of problem children.

If I don't get a first or 2:1 I will probably go for teacher training and become a teacher for a few years as this would enhance my application for an educational psychology doctorate. We will see! University has changed a lot for me.

If all goes to plan, I'll hopefully go into teaching - preferably late primary. I'm not too sure why, I just feel as though I would be good at it. Depending on how my course at Uni goes, I might try doing some writing on the side too, simply because I enjoy it.

There seems to be a high demand for teaching careers!

i don't have a clue tbh. i've got a good few months until i'm in my 2nd year of uni, so i suppose at that point i'll need to start thinking. but nevertheless, my backup career would probably be a teacher.

I'm really passionate about film so I'd love a job in the film industry, I think I'd be good at directing and script writing so I plan to get a job with a film company and work my way up.
Second choice is Optician, I did my work experience at one and found I was really interested plus I enjoy physics. However I'd end up having to take the long route if the film job didn't work out as I don't plan to take 3 A level sciences, but it's still achievable :)

Career is pretty much definitely to be a Software Engineer, i seem to have a talent for it and REALLY enjoy it, so lets see. I see myself in 10 years working as one god knows where but earning something, not exactly thinking ill be at the top already.

Im not really sure what interests me. I've always had an interest in IT, but never had an idea of exactly what i wanted to do in it. At first i thought it'd be web design, but after starting college and beginning to do some coding, i realised that was what i really loved and enjoyed and being good at it always helps.

oh jesus I dread this topic.
I really can't understand how people have decided what they want to do for the rest of their lives when they've probably only lived around a 6th of it. I still feel like I'm about 6 and incapable of making any well thought out and right decisions.

Probably I'll just drift around different jobs never really enjoying anything until I retire into a life of saddening poverty.
Unless I find something I actually can do proficiently.

I can't see myself in ten years. I don't plan that far. Ideally after uni I want to do the JET Programme for five years then after that I would like to pursue a career in journalism if I haven't already devoted myself to something else, but really I don't have a solid career or anything like that in mind. My future is unclear and I think it is needless to plan to plan so far ahead. If I do get on the JET Programme and do stay for the full five years, about the only thing I can see is me pursuing a teaching career in Japan. I wonder if my future will always be so vague.

To be honest, I have no idea. I'm going to start doing UCAS next year and I have no idea what course I'd like to do at uni at all :(

I'm 19 and I'm not sure what career path I'd be happy to settle with, my options are limited as I don't have thousands of pounds to fork out for uni. I love people who have dream careers, in the past I had my own but I've faced the truth. A good paying job needs good qualifications and that isn't going to happen without having the money or brains for uni. I'm not too fussed about what job I get (if i'm lucky), as long as I can do my job and be happy. I ****** up my career big time when I pissed away all my pre teenage years having fun, it sounds bad but in some sense it was worth it. Yeah I ****** up my dreams but I also had a blast, obviously I wouldn't recommend people to do it and if I had the option I'd go back and go to school everyday, I'm basically trying to defend the fact that not going to school didn't bring all bad, I had fun :P.

Those reading this who're still in school, don't laze about waiting for people to tell you to go to school, do it yourself because eventually it'll kick you in the ass.

My plans are to get as much education as I can afford and work my ass off in a job that I might not even enjoy. Now, to me, education isn't something that I look for an award in (A job), I just love to have the quality's of knowledge, even if I don't use that knowledge, I still love knowing that I have it if it's needed. Knowing how to fix a computer, knowing how to cook or even knowing how to design a web page to the best of my ability, I love learning new things.

I know I went way off topic. To sum things up, I'll hopefully get a full-time job and any spare cash I earn will go in to night course(s) or the odd class a week. Then perhaps the knowledge that I've gathered in those courses could lead to a better career path.

I did want to be a vet or primary school teacher but I think I would prefer something more practical and something I know I will enjoy..like baking.
I'm doing a 3 year course in catering at college and then hopefully going to the Tante Marie cookery school, which is co-owned by Gordan Ramsey to get my Cordon Bleu diploma and Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality’s Level 4 Diploma in Professional Culinary Arts qualification. Both are very highly recognised in the industry. Then I would like to have some experience in baking and pastry making by going on some work experience in London or France and well, eventually open up my own quaint bakery and create my own little cakes and pastries.

So, I've pretty much got it all planned out and I'm just hoping it goes the way I want it too!

At this rate I'm going to be doing the same job as I'm going into next week, which is fine since it's a support job and it's something I kinda enjoy. However if I had the choice, I'd love to teach. It was an idea brought to my attention by my parents, and since I wanna migrate to another country and there's always a need for teachers somewhere, it's real food for thought. I'm not 100% on what I'll be doing though.

Inseriousity.

I've always wanted to be a teacher cos i learnt from an early age the difference between a good teacher/bad teacher and i always aspired to be one of those cool teachers so films where the teacher comes in, the kids are naughty then suddenly theyre all very nice at the end probably helped with that idea! Recently though reality has kicked in that actually it's a very hard profession to get into. Ever since I did sociology, I've liked the thought of doing research and making students pass out with exhaustion having to revise my ideas for their exam. lolol jk but yes research into education and/or theology would be interesting imo. :D

In 5 years time I hope to become a Emergency Care Practitioner, followed by a Paediatric Consultant Paramedic in 10 years. Although the way the Ambulance Service is changing right now there will probably be other specialisms available in a few years time so I'm not 100% sure yet, we shall see :)

no idea at all, I don't even know if I want to go to uni because of the high costs of it all.
But I wouldn't mind working with children, but when I was younger I wanted to work with animals?
I have no idea D;
