Picked up my new saxo yesterday for £40, (being dead serious)

Problems were:
Locking doesnt work
needs new drivers door
needs new bonnet
Boot is minging inside
Back seats are mank.
declared "sorn" off road

Good points:
Engine is immaculate
67k miles
Interior doesnt need being replaced (doorcards, front seats, dash etc)
Its silver ;D
New alloys
5 months MOT

Fixed locking cleared out boot & taken out back seats, Win :d

Gives me something to do on my days off although cant find alloy key anywhere which is a bummer, but for £40 i honestly can't complain i could probably get more scrap for it.

Nice one (Y) But wont it cost you Lodes to Put everything right and to put back on road?

Not really, Breakers sell bonnets & doors at 20-30£ each & to put back on road will be like £65 for 6 months tax? Im not overly worried about the backseats yet as ive got a car which i drive now anyway & it being off the road doesnt need to be insured yet so i dont have to declare having things missing.

Not bad at all for £40. You could get at least £80 in scrap for it. Even better if it came with a full tank of fuel.

buying cars that have been salvaged by the insurance company can be steals. over here one of the leading insurance companys have this policy where if you smash your new car they replace your car with a car one model year newer and/or if you smash your brand new car they give you the money to purchase a brand new car (not the depreciated value like most policys). so the junk yards are getting these great cars that have been written off for something that may cost 2k to fix. my mom bought a 2010 bmw that had like 6000 miles on it and it was involved in a "roll-over" - no airbags deployed, just some dents and scratches in the roof.. full re-spray of the roof + dent removal cost her $1200! the car cost 18k from the junkyard, + 1200 for the work, a 2010 BMW for less than 20k!!!

i like how you changed this into another story about you.

@thread: any idea how much it'd be to fix all of that?

Just went to breakers & its going to cost roughly 90£ for a new bumper, bonnet & door, They had no grills cos the one side of mine is broke but on ebay they are like 15£? So £105 for all the bodywork, back seat is coming out next week hopefully and ill scrub that down as it doesnt really need to be replaced & boot is spotless now. So £105 for parts & another £70 to tax it? Thats to make it driveable & mot standard etc but i may keep it off road for a few months and use it as my next project.

Is the only damage to the bonnet that area of rust?

If so then id just sand that area back, prime it and then spray over. Or if you cant be bothered to colour match it just sand it down and matt black the bonnet, saves you on a whole new panel.

Bumper possibly fixed wit cable ties if its just mounts that have moved.

Back seats dont look too bad, steam clean and airing them out should fix it, I got rid of a pile of mould ovr my back seats when I crashed my car and it blew out the back window, so let a puddle of water in which I never dried up for ages.

Door, again try get behind it with a hammer or something.

Or are you planning on using this car properly and not just something to go from A to B?

EDIT:

Also, do you have the immobiliser code? :P and it looks in the last picture asif its got some positive camber going on at the front, or is it just the picture?

Seems a steal anyway, I got £50 for my rolled clio and that was only the shell left, id stripped the rest.

The bonnet is dented & warped where the rust is, bumper was already held on with cable ties, and cracked at the front & its now off and hopefully going to pick a new one up next week.

Yeh immobiliser code i never had one before its horrible having to put it in each time lol.

put it in, start it up, leave running, unplug the pad and you'll never have to use it again.

It looks like it has been used as a drug shed. Nice for £40 though. As yourself and others have said, you'd get more than that in scrap!
