Hi,
I've just been talking to my Mum about whether people tend to specialise in either English or Maths, or whether there are people out there who get top grades in them both?

For example at my school right now, there are people who got A* in both English and Maths but it's such a minority of people I wondered whether there was a significant difference between them. They're both completely opposite subjects so this could be quite interesting.

Sooooo, if you're willing to release your grades... I'd like to know what GCSE Grades you got in both English and Maths; and whether you prefer one subject over the other?

For example, I got an A in English Language and a B in Maths. I'm wanting to study English Language at University and I despise Maths.
You?

I got an A GCSE in both english lit, lang AND maths, but I got a much better mark in English. Also did English for A-Level, and applied for Uni.

I think the thing with maths is... yeah you have to be good at it, but if you teach yourself how to do it, the formulas and things, then you can't go wrong, theoretically, whereas in English you have to construct and argument and back it up. Maths is logic, English is creative, is the simplest way I can think of to say it... some people have good logic and creativity, some people only one (my logic is terrible ngl).

I got an A in my Maths, B in English Lang and I don't know my Eng Lit grade yet but I personally find maths easier because the answer is either right or wrong, there's no room for debate so I find it's easier to revise. I enjoy English but I worry that the points I'm making aren't right.

I haven't yet got my results but I'm predicted an A* in Maths and an A in English. Personally, I prefer Maths over English and will be studying Maths/Further Maths at A Level :).

My country has exams similar to GCSEs and I sat for them.
I got A+ in English and Maths.
A for English Lit. :)

Both subjects are OK for me because I like Science a lot more than both of the subjects. So, I'll go for Science if I were to pick a course or sumtin like that.
Tbh, I'm good at both subjects. They're equally balanced. :)

oh i'm horrible at maths! i still count on my fingers and i don't know how to do percentages or areas. i don't really care though, i have tried teaching myself but it just slips away really... if you don't use it, you lose it. we don't do gcse, we do standard grade and i got a 3 but it was easy. english i'm good at though (depsite my lack of capital letters etc here ;)) especially essays where i'm given leeway to write whatever i want and if i'm not then i can still twist things to suit myself. i don't remember my standard grade but i have an A at higher which i guess is equivalent to A-level but i'm not interested in pursuing it. i do a ton of writing and essays on my course and rarely have to do maths so it's all good. i've found that the people who excelled in both at my school have ended up doing something in maths or science.

I'm brutal at maths, but for my exams (GCSE's) as you call them I'll get an A in English but probably a horrible result in maths.

Maths is logic, English literature is about analyzing, creativity and structuring. Some people think logically and are terrible wither the later, some are average in both, some excel in the creativity department and then there are always the few that are above average in both.

I got a B in English Language, a C in English Literature and a C in maths however for the final year they decided to put me in a foundation group so hindered my chances of getting a B in maths. However, I prefer English to maths :)!!!

Was aiming for an A in both, but screwed up one of the maths papers.

So A in English (both) and B in Maths :\

I managed to achieve B in both Maths and English Language & Literature. However, I'll always find English much more challenging and fun.

I was always so bad at maths. I hate it! It just doesn't click for me but I was really good and loved English. Got sooo much tutoring for my maths gcse and got a B which was better than I expected.

I hated Maths with a passion! It bored the hell out of me and my results in the subject began to slip as I got older - though I did manage to get a C in my GCSEs. English however, I excelled in :D I got an A* in English Language and an A in English Literature

I hated English, especially in grade 12.
It wasn't the subject itself though, it was just the subject matter we were studying. i didn't see the point in learning about William Shakespeare and Pride and Prejudice when I know I'd never use them outside of school. I literally just passed English.
I did way better in Maths

I'm definitely a lot better at English! Regardless of whether I like it or not, it's gonna have to be English over Math.
