lmao im getting a moped when im 16 and that is the end of march so im starting to save up, im just wondering if anyone has one of use to have one, and how much it costed a week/month for insurance, i really wouldn't trust myself to drive a moped, as i think a car will just pull out on me in just a week of having it, but yeh im getting one and my decision is final. Just wondering also is it embarussing when cars take over you, and you have loads of traffic behind you, major down point of having a moped:(

Wouldn't bother myself, they sound absolutely horrific. Also when your 17 you will be able to start learning to drive a car and leave the moped to rot.

Ive had 3, go for gilera runner, the full tank of petrol is roughly £6 and full years insurance for me is £300 with 6 points. So yea :)

If i didn't live were i am (in a small village with no buses shops schools colleges etc) i wouldn't bother getting a moped, but it's obviously going to be a bother getting to college or work when my mum and dad are at work themselves, so I don't see how i would get to college which is like 15+ miles away

Get a push bike. If your fit enough many of them go as fast as a Moped and its cheaper and gets your fitness up. Seems like a win win to me.?

This was my ped 170cc gilera runner 2 stroke (registered as a 125cc), with alot of engine tweaks, got 110mph out of it, then a few weeks later got stolen from my garden, I was so pissed. After I took the photo, the lights where changed to carbon fibre and the white replaced with carbon fibre too, and the crank case was polished to chrome, looked amazing!Altogetherit costed me just over £1800, £700 for the moped, £230 for the orange evo panels, and the rest of engine tweaks, rear malossi shock, malossi forks and wavey front disk, oh I miss it !!! The first photo is what I bought it like, the rest is all my doings.

Don't listen to the guys saying not to get one, do what I did, buy a bike (mine was a Yamaha Jog RR 50cc), and tune it. My bike basically wasn't legal because I went well over the top with it, Malossi MHR2 85cc aluminum cylinder, Malossi MHR2 crank, variator, clutch, secondary gears, Yasuni Carrera 21 exhaust, damn it was fast though, and sounded nothing like a 'hair dryer'.

Erm, I can upload a couple of pics if I can find them, one is blurred though, and I don't actually have any of the engine/parts, just the bike in general.

Yeah for sure get a moped. They are great on gas and i'm sure insurance is cheap for them. I used to have a 1970s Honda Hobbit for 3+ years when i was 12. That thing never let me down. So many memories with it, i took the muffler off and built a straight pipe out of it, sounded like a chainsaw LOL. Then i wrecked it, and gave up on trying to fix it. Here's what mine looked like

Who says you cant register as a 50cc and put a different engine in it?

cos you can get done for it

you won't because it costs police around £500 to get someone out to test the BHP... So they don't do it. But never the less its too expensive to get a new engine in it, not worth time may aswel ether get a cheap bike n let it last a year or wait for a car.

I've had my moped, a 1979 FS1E, since March and it's been some of the most enjoyable experiences I've had.

It's great for the first time being able to go places! Me and my mates used to moped to the sea front for a 'burn', taking a back-route with a great flat-out section which we all loved (myself more because mine was the fastest! ;)). It's also my primary transport for getting to work now.

Depending on what you get if you unlimit them they can go between 38-55 (55 is my best, although I slipstreamed a bus), or more if it's an Aprilia but unless you want to spend more time at the side of the road than riding it's not one I'd suggest. My insurance is fully comp and £500, simply because it's worth about £2,000 and with a company that specialises in classic bike car insurance.

Don't worry about slowing cars down - you won't. Car always pull out but I've never been hit (you get some days where everyone pulls out and you're like :@!). I remember after my first week like wanting to get rid of it, but I'm so glad I kept it.

so yeah do it

I see no point in mopeds unless you're buying it as an essential mode of travel (i.e., like you are, where buses etc are inconvenient)

There's not much point in my eyes buying one to buy a new engine and spend lots of money on it, at the end of the day you're never going to get your money back and a year later you can buy a car (or if you're into bikes, a proper bike.)

You're better off buying a cheap one, doing nothing to it apart from maintain it, and then sell it on for a similar price when you turn 17 and buy a car.

For some, like me it was/is a hobby. If I could afford it, I would simply go out, buy an old Yamaha frame, preferably a Jog 2003+ model or 1999+ Aerox model. Until you try it, you won't understand, I spent 2 years on my bike, trying out different engine parts etc, ask Casio, he has seen pics.

I just used mine to get to school, think parents paid £500 for it and small insurance. a tenner of petrol would last like a week and a half happily. No matter what i did really, i had this;

Cheap but gets you from A to B

This dudes bike looks good. Its true, if you are into mopeds then go for it, people stay on them their whole life, I would love another one again, id either get an Areox or another Gilera Runner, but get a 4 stroke and change the bore to a 210cc.

No, I understand. I'm the same with cars. It just doesn't interest some people (like myself). If you enjoy it, then go for it. :)

Pulse Adrenaline is 125cc, could always restrict it. not extremely expensive ether, around £2000 new.
