I love watching documentaries about the universe and space. I find it so fascinating to see what's actually out there. For this competition, all you have to do is tell me a fascinating fact about the universe. The most interesting will win!

Good luck! :)

Prize: 5 credits + 10 rep

The Earth is not flat – but the Universe isBased on Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, there are three possible shapes that the Universe may take: open, closed, and flat. Once again, measurements by WMAP on the CMBR have revealed a monumental confirmation – the Universe is flat.

The milky way is on a crash course with The Andromeda Galaxy, when we collide the galaxies will merge, crashing together creating new planets and possibly spinning planets and our asteroid belt and anything in Andromeda into space causing possibly more galaxies, and our suns to either merge into one sun or a galaxy with dual suns. Also in june, venus and earth will align and create a partial blackout of the sun, its also speculated that saturn will align at the same point causing an eclipse that wont happen again for billions of years.

A bucket filled with earth would Weigh about five times more than the same bucket filled with the substance of the sun. However, the force of Gravity is so much greater on the sun that a man Weighing 150 pounds on our planet would Weigh 2 tons on the sun.

The gravitational field inside a black hole is so strong that it can swallow anything in the universe, even a passing star and its light. If an objest weighing 1 kg is brought to within 6 m of a black hole, it would weigh a million million tonnes.

The Sun loses up to a billion kilograms a second due to solar winds.

Solar winds are charged particles that are ejected from the upper surface of the sun due to the high temperature of the corona and the high kinetic energy particles gain through a process that is not well understood at this time.

About 25% of the universe consists of "dark matter", and about 70% consists of "dark energy", leaving only about 5% of the universe visible to us

The density of Saturn is so low that if you were to put it in a giant glass of water it would float. The actual density of Saturn is 0.687 g/cm3 while the density of water is 0.998 g/cm3. At the equator Saturn has a radius of 60,268 ± 4 km – which means you would need an extremely large glass of water to test this out.

Scientists found a new particle floating in the universe. She is known as "the god´s particle" cause she is the base of ALL living creatures, and may put the existence of God at risk.
