The English Language is so powerful and I find it mind-blowing that some other countries (who also speak English) can have different names than we do here. For example, candyfloss to those who are British is cotton candy to Americans and such; I just don't get how that is possible! There's so many varieties between each language and last year I got the chance to study some in my English Language class - I loved it and I wish I could have done a study just on that. This gave me an idea, I want you to find me a word i.e. candyfloss that is named something different in another country (remember to tell me both words)! - I want to expand my knowledge.

The most interesting will win!

Good luck.

In Portuguese there is the word ''rapariga'' that means, in Portugal, ''girl''.
In Brazil, the exact same word is used to swear at a girl saying that she, lets say, offers herself to everyone in exchange for money.

So if someone Portuguese goes to Brazil and wants to call/say hi to a girl, if they say: ''Oi, rapariga!'' (''Hey, girl!'') everyone who lives there will think they are calling her the dirty s or w word. xD

P.S.: Not sure if that's seen as avoiding the filter. Sorry if it is.

Love is yêu (pronounced similarly to you) in Vietnamese which I found quite funny.
