How are you feeling about GCSE/A-Level results day?

I get my GCSE results on the 22nd August and I'm not feeling that worried that I'll fail them but still quite nervous I won't be able to do my preferred A-level choices:rolleyes::Embarrassed:

Come back on results day and let everyone know how you did :)

Crap, especially for my law result ;s. I had to resit the first exam cause I did so poor and then I ballsed up the second one because I forgot the definition of 2 terms cry.

Sociology should be good for me, but philosophy just yeah no comment.

I'm really dreading my results tbh, especially for music and for chemistry. Probably most worried about mechanics 1 for maths though cuase of the last paper in that and cause I need such ridiculously high UMS in Maths :(

I get mine on the 22nd August.

Quite nervous as I'm getting my 'main' gcse results back. (Maths, English, Science) as well as Law and Product Design!!

Ofc I have another year to improve maths+english but still.. ;s

If I balls up it doesn't matter THAT much because I'm already guaranteed a place in Sixth Form if non of the grade boundaries were increased on the results I've already got back, if they were lowered then I'll be jumping for joy, but I'd prefer to get decent results then **** results
I'm worried about French and Music that's about it

I genuinely believe I may have buggered up my exams to the extent I won't get the grades I need. Hopefully I haven't as I can't stand another year in this hell hole LOL. I'll be staying up until late to see if I get my grades & if I do, I shall be applying for my accommodation immediately.

Not worried a single bit, but still have some nervousness -- not sure why. I think it's excitement. I haven't considered failing because I don't think it'll happen to me, but if I do fail, I'd be in for a nasty surprise.

Oh really, is it the same time the college/sixth form allows you to collect them?

My UCAS updated at around 6:30am, so I found out online before I collected my results.

UCAS says that all results will be up by 8am. So generally, you get them online before you get your results, which is strange, since it's really the only results day where you know how well you've done before getting the actual grades.

Chippiewill
14-08-2013, 04:45 PM
From the intense research my sister has been doing (For some reason she's more interested in my results than I am), apparently UCAS tends to update for most between 7:30 and 8:00.

I was wondering whether it will or not, but I'd like to think it won't and that they're prepared for the amount of people that will be accessing their site :P. I just have to use my college's own website anyway, just hoping my internet will be working tomorrow morning!

I remember being in this position 2 years ago and it was awful, knowing your uni knows and you don't!

Managed to get onto UCAS track at 8am which confirmed I'd got into uni and it was FAB. My mum cried. Then waltzed into uni and found out I got AAB which was what I needed for uni. Then got v. drunk with my year group in the evening :D

Pure Maths - A , 298/300
Further Maths - A , 283/300
Music - A , 263/300
Chemistry - A , 255/300
Physics - A , 263/300

was a bit confused with the pure maths/further maths though because I thought S1 was part of pure and D1 part of further, but if I do that I end up with 294/300 on pure and 287/300 on further, but if i put S1 as further and D1 as pure then I get what I have on my results as pure 298/300 and further 283/300 so a little confused :(

Didn't do as well as hoped, but I didn't expect to do well anyway.

ICT - A (15 from A*)
Economics - B (11 from A)
Maths - B (25 from A) - A used to be guaranteed in maths until those horrible C3/C4 papers :(.

Probably could have got A*AB if not A*AA if I worked harder though. Didn't meet my conditional offer for uni but 5 mins after I saw my results I got a text from them saying my place was confirmed, and then realised they'd changed it to an unconditional offer so that's good I guess.

From what I can tell, the modules are automatically juggled between the two qualifications to maximise grades first and then maximises UMS points for Maths over Further Maths.

I thought my whole university degree was easy. Defo think they should make it harder! although it could have just been because I went to a crap uni.

I remember overhearing my university lecturer talking about the student's performances and saying "oh the student's didn't do well here last year so we're going to change that to make it easier for them".. and no doubt this would happen every couple of years.

Sadly it's all about success, retention rates and £ now. :(

You won't do - I did absolutely zero revision for GCSEs and put in little effort in school and came out with relatively decent grades (mix of As, Bs and Cs) - felt like a mug afterwards for not trying, but if you have tried you'll be fine :)

I seem to be very alike you then ahaa..

but the grade boundaries are soso high.. I thought I did decent in Law, but the boundaries are so high it's unbelievable ;/

How do you think you did, Zitrone?

I think I did okay, I'm hoping for an A* in geography and an A in french but I might drop a grade in both. I know I have probably failed statistics and got C's in both English lang and lit but other than that I'm probably gunna be looking at a list of B's :P

Those grades sound pretty awesome, Zitrone.

I'm sure you haven't failed statistics, and with how your other expected grades sound I think you've probably got better than Cs in English language and literature.

I look forward to see your grades posted tomorrow.

Oxbridge generally say you have to have a good number of GCSEs that are all A*/A grades. I've found the "best" UK Universities often request all GCSEs to be good grades.

she studied two A levels at home and completed an access course (whilst working full time) so i suppose they thought she made up for it. getting bad gcses doesn't limit your options if you're willing to work hard to make up for them. there are lots of stories like that at even the most elite universities.

Working hard doesn't necessarily open all the options for you, baring in mind many people with straight A* grades commonly get rejected.

He wasn't saying that lol, he was saying in certain cases it does happen which is true. Also it's not just grades even though they're important, that they're looking at, they're looking at how rounded you are as a person, life experience etc, The girl obviously worked HARD, I studied an access course this year and they're very intense so working full time as well as that.... plus self teaching 2 alevels. Very commendable.

I don't think that was the point being made, some btecs are worthy, people just need to be wary of the equivalent qualifications sometimes:

well i disagree. lots of stupid people get A*s at GCSE, in a sense they're trained to perform in certain ways... often people who get first from Oxbridge did badly at their GCSES because it requires much more original thought.

Are you in Year 10, hence the lack of results?
And are the Maths and Science the full GCSE or just modular results?

And what's wrong with them? As long as you get the grades for whatever you want to do next (And Maths/English C grades) they're pretty pointless :P

I don't see why they wouldn't. A C is a pass and they can take into account you did it a year early.

EDIT: Just remembered, if you can't do it it's not the end of the world, you don't need to do law at A level to do it in uni (in fact it's an idea to not take it as you'll be doing mostly the same stuff) :)

Regarding your remark question, I believe if they remark it and you go up a grade it's free of charge.

If you're in year 10, can't you just retake a poor module in year 11 ready for year 12?

And obviously you need to contact your sixth form to see what grades they require, at my place you need C to advance.

Good news though, to do law at Uni, you don't need a law A-Level. Infact, I've heard that an A-Level in Law is actually a bad thing, and Uni's have to 'unteach' you first... Might want to double check though :P

Sometimes even doing law at uni may be a bad idea, as you re-learn most of the information through training to be a lawyer or whatever. That's why a lot of people do something like history in uni and then go on to train in the law profession :)

Yes there is a bit of confusion about whether taking A Level Law is advisable or not. If you want to do it then quite gladly go for it (although it is not considered "as facilitating a subject" compared to maths / science / english / some humanties) and if you get a good grade in it then woo. I'm sure there was a survey (I was given the results of it in my law class) about which universities were open to accepting law - all of them but Oxford and Cambridge were.

The teaching style of it at university is different hence why some unis will deter students from doing it at A Level.

As others have said, you certainly don't need law at A Level. It is also the case in SOME Universities that law is not accepted, however it is a myth that this is common - I think it is more of a modern grannys tale that this is the case.

I took Law at AS Level and got a C in it, so proceeded to drop it - found there to be far more work than any of my other subjects, although my hatred for the teacher probably made it worse. Don't worry about being one mark of a B - whilst it is disappointing, you could potentially risk dropping a grade - which would be silly for something that doesn't matter too much :)

If the paper got remarked and she dropped from a C to a D, there was some serious bad marking in the first place to drop a whole grade boundary.

I was constantly told during the enrolment at sixth form that I had a fantastic set of results and my BTECs were never mentioned to be less worthy than the GCSEs I had received

The woman at enrolment said that with my great set of results I should try and apply to get into one of the top 24 Universities in the country as it would be a waste for me not to go to one :L

I am being straight with you, nobody will consider them 2 A*s - a BTEC is a BTEC, whilst a GCSE is a GCSE. I'm not saying they are worth nothing for you, just that they don't literally translate to GCSEs - sorry, but that is a fact.

Also, the woman at your enrolment appears to have referred to the Russell Group Universities. I should point out this group is merely about the money spent on research, and does NOT indicate whether a University is "worthy". Case in point; I received all five of my offers from Universities. Four of these offers were from "Russell Group" ones, whilst one of them was not. I have opted to go for the one that is not in this group, and have considered reapplying for another University... that is not in this group. Th Universities I am referring to are Loughborough and Bath, now lets have a look at the league tables;

Bath - number 9
Loughborough - number 14

Both of these feature higher in league tables for Business-related courses specifically, but to keep it fair I went for the overall results. Meanwhile, as an example, Sheffield is not in the top 24.

Certainly, even if we put the BTECs to one side, your results are excellent and there is no reason why you can't apply at the top Universities in the country, but please, ignore any tripe you hear that you should apply at "one of the 24" (aka the Russell Group) - the only people this REALLY benefits is your college, who can add students to their precious statistics :L

Failed my AS's today and dropped out. Woo!
Same boat pretty much! They told me I could progress onto A2 but told them to shove their a levels and went to apply for full time BTEC in Applied Science, so I can still get onto my uni degree at a decent-ish uni. :)
