Going to put some facts and figures below to make this thread look amazing!
[*=center]The first Commonwealth Games took place in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. Four hundred athletes from eleven countries competed over 6 sports and 59 events.
[*=center]Scotland has previously hosted the event twice, in 1970 and 1986, both in Edinburgh.
[*=center]There will be 6,500 athletes from 71 nations competing in 17 sports over 11 days. In the original Commonwealth Games, only 400 athletes from 11 countries took part.
[*=center]The Queen's Baton Relay tomorrow night will have covered 190,000KM across the Commonwealth. That's the equivalent of going around the Earth's surface almost 4.25 times.

I will be a volunteer for the games as a Press Tribune team member for the Squash and Table Tennis. I'm really looking forward to my volunteering and seeing all the events! Also it's in my home city so that's a bonus. :)
Sorry to be a kill joy but am I the only one who's really not phased by the games?

Good thread Mikey but I agree with Mark. The games don't really interest me at all but yesterday I did go to do some shopping yesterday in the city and I have never seen it so busy. Hopefully it brings much needed money into Scotland.
They're broadcasting it quite a bit over here in Australia and they've been interviewing quite a few aussie athletes leading up to the opening ceremony. No doubt they'll keep us all up to date on Australia's performance!
Hope you have fun volunteering Mikey, it sounds like a great opportunity! Have fun :)

Yeah I was but I didn't fancy it so didn't go to the next stage of the process. Yeah likewise.
Never knew the commonwealth games were now a charity event...

Worst Children in Need, ever.
It was basically 1/2 Scotland saying how great it is (totally not trying to influence any results of any kind this year ;) ) and the other half talking about kids in need.
does anyone know when the triathlon is on today
lad i was in school with is representing wales

John Barrowman using the games (a sporting event) to champion LGBTXYZ causes has just embarrassed Britain infront of the entire Commonwealth.
HM the Queen looked as regal as ever though xx

Did the duke indeed? Will vaguely keep an eye on it. As guernsey competes in it.

Although I did enjoy seeing Celtic support on social media getting mad at someone singing god save the queen

To be fair, they're not exactly going to show the negatives of Scotland lol?
I thought the opening ceremony got better as time went on. At the beginning it was rather cringy with the Tunnocks tea cakes... However towards the end there was a good ambience about the whole ceremony.
The opening ceremony was horrific I'm embarrassed for Scotland. Rod Stewart sounded like his voice drop was about to drop out (as usual-- why is he even still singing??) and subo sang perhaps my least favourite song in the entire world. The queen looked glorious though.
Come on England let's win everything yeahh wooooo sport and stuff

Loved the athletes parade and Rod Stewart was great to watch.
Thought the beginning and when Susan Boyle was up there performing was a bit cringe-worthy though.

Yeah but there was like a song which was literally just saying how great Scotland is, like "we made this and we made that" lalala

WOOOOO YAYY ENGLAND'S THE BESTTTT
Gold Coast next!! They keep going on about how poor Australia's performance was lmao, I thought they did well considering they came second overall. The closing ceremony looked really good from what I saw of it.
