Sayings that others don't understand?
As many of you know I'm from Yorkshire (and apparently I have an accent). It also turns out myself and my family have certain sayings that people from other counties don't understand. When my sister started going out with her boyfriend, we found out a lot of what we were saying he didn't really get and we had to explain them a bit to him.
For example:
Whenever we can't hear someone we will say "ke?" As in what did you say (took him a while to get this one and he says it a lot now).
My sister said to him "My sister's calling" (he waited for her to phone, but she meant calling round).
Do you want any 'snap' (food) etc.
There's more but my mind's gone a bit blank. One that he said to us what we didn't understand was a "pack up" - it means packed lunch, but I'd never heard of it before. I hear it a lot more now though.
