I recommend Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

I'm not a big fan of war films, at all. But this is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's about the battle between the Americans and the Japanese for the mountain, Iwo Jima. Letters from Iwo Jima is from the Japanese point of view, theres another film from the Americans point of view that was released at the same time called Flags of Our Fathers. But the Japanese version is a lot better. However, if you watch one, you should definitely watch the other!

im not sure if you guys have this one yet, but no country for old men is such an intense movie. if you like smart suspenseful thrillers, you have to see it. its up for best picture at the oscars, along with 7 other things.

I'd recommend American Gangster. Was out a couple of months ago. It's fantastically written with great performances from Crowe and Washington.
