    ie;

i'm a human, just like you,
but i got better things to do,
    than sit around,
    f*** my head,
hang out with the living dead,
snort white s*** up my nose,
and pass out at the shows,
    don't even think about speed,
    it's something i don't need.

    i've got straight edge.

i'm a human, just like you,
but i got better things to do,
than sit around and smoke dope,
coz i know i can cope,
laugh at the thought at eating ludes,
laugh at the thought of sniffing glue,
    always gonna keep in touch,
    never gonna use a crutch.

    i've got straight edge.

straight edge is a movement mostly fueled by hardcore bands in which a person pledges to not drink, not smoke, to not take drugs and to not partake in casual sex. minor threat are credited with starting the movement. it is common for straight edge bands to have 'x's in their names and for edgers to draw black 'x's on their hands.

the guy who wrote the song i quoted above now smokes pot, drinks and has sex with his girlfriend. oh the irony.

Yeah, in my opinion Minor Threat definately did start the movement. I quite respect Straight Edge people, it's something I couldn't do(I like alcohol too much) but the non smoking/drugs would be eazee! Some are full on straight edge vegans - nuts. Most bands will have like xBishopx or StraightxEdge or something like that. But quite a few bands don't use xs to signify it and are just straight edge/sing about it in their songs.

i hate people who claim to be straight edge before they are even legally eligible to drink or even smoke.

most people binge drink and do drugs MORE when they're underage. that's actually a fact. it was started by kids in a scene where you could either start a band or shoot smack. luckily for us a few kids from that area chose to make a band and we got some quality music.

oh and hardcore; don't you think that a lot of edgers have taken it too far though? i mean when ian mackaye wrote straight edge he explicitally said he wasnt telling you what to do, nor did he tell you to go out and get XXXXXXXX tatooed all over yourself. just my opinion anyway.

scene's are always taken too far as people seek to go to a further extreme and eventually they dissapear as it all beomces unoriginal and boring.
by summer it'll be out of fashion no doubt; it's already fading.

may i take this opportunity to call you an idiot; for straight edge has been a common movement in popular culture since the mid 80s. it's not a scene it's a ******* life choice. that'll be a fall out boy song next week, you see.
