Most NGE tends to be pretty expensive to buy, plus you do loose a bit if you get the dubbed version (a number of episodes were severely edited so as not to offend quite so many people)
So if you are ok with subs, the subbed original versions are far far superior. (and available from your nearest torrent site most likely)

Other than that, there's plenty of animé ive enjoyed and would recommend, but it really depends on your tastes for alot of it :p

It doesn't look too expensive, presuming this is the right thing? I prefer to buy the DVDs, even though many of them tend to be copies, instead of downloading them.

Well I'll happily sit and watch any anime that is recommended to me. I don't like just a few genres of anime, I like a lot of different ones. I tend to like shorter series anime instead of on-going ones though.

Decent price there, plus yup thats it. Its got the two movies two which kinda make some sence out the final eps of the serise which are some of the weirdest things ive ever seen.
