To all the people saying they shouldn't be striking, you're bloody mad, fair enough the younger generations shouldn't, but workers in their late 40s/50s have been working their entire life expecting and paying into pensions for them to be slashed when they have somewhere between 10 years and 3 months left of their working life. You cannot say you wouldn't be doing the same in their situation.

    A bloody shambles.

This is a post full of misinformed, unsupported, bigoted and narrow-minded tosh. I was going to say that I can't help but cringe at your opening sentence ("Labour are for the people"), but it seems the sentence is a paragraph.

We live in a society with a severely ageing population. Health care has advanced dramatically over the past few years and people are living a lot longer than they were when the initial policies were put in place. The working public cannot be expected to fund the increasing amount of "eilderly people" any longer. These same people get a winter fuel allowance which is FORCED upon them (I remember reading someone tried to opt out because they could afford to pay for it themselves, but it was still thrust upon them. It should be an opt-in service)! I know none of this is really related to the strikes but I can't stand posts like this.

I've just watched the video of Ed Miliband's response to Clarkson's comments. I don't care what he has to say (let's be honest, who does?) but I'm almost screaming at how his hand gestures are out of rhythm with his spiel. Oh, and I hate his voice. And his hair. And the fact that he uses such simplistic jargon. And the fact that he only says these things to persuade the public who are so completely unaware of his pure and utter ********.

current affairs need a rename to current politics.... i have no idea how any of you have such brain capacities that allow politics (alongside drinking and all the other cool teen stuff) to stay in your minds. dare one of you to say it's because you're educated and i'm not, i'll hurt you for telling lies.

i think what he said was a bit silly and i generally don't like him but whatever, when you see it in context and he says 'this is the bbc i have to balance it', it's doesn't seem as bad but still. don't like him.

The people who have taken this literally need to be shot.

    He said, and I quote:

"It's been fantastic. Seriously, never had ... London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you could whizz about, your restaurants were empty."

"We have to balance it though, don't we because this is the BBC."

    "Frankly, I'd have them shot.
I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families."

He was and is in support of the strikes, but some imbred imbesiles only focus on the negatives and never take a joke. They're too busy trotting around like their farts don't stink. The idiots who said he should be sacked for stating a joke need to be shot in the throat. The very right to freedom of expression is the very right they are utilising to express their views over the public sector cuts and pension issues. It's so incredibly frustrating when people, who should of been killed off years ago by natural selection, do not read the full story or watch the very programme the comments were made in. It's also incredibly annoying when someone states their opinion and idiots say he should not be allowed the right to JOKE freely, to joke is the express oneself. These hypocrites are using this right to strike, and without it they wouldn't be allowed to.

I honestly can't believe some people. They're so pig thick it's unbelievable. It was a joke, and some berks get so up in airs over nothing. If anything, the twits who care so much about this have ruined the point of the strike, by diverting attention to Jeremy Clarkson and his irrelevant (though humourous) comments.

I can't believe this is news. Shame on those public sector workers who complained and those not involved in the strikes at all, for ruining the strikes for those who understand humour and sarcasm. Jeremy Clarkson's comment are probably true now given the ignorance of some of these individuals

It was a stupid thing to say at the time tbh and I think everyone can agree with that.

They're striking for a good cause and as mentioned before, he probably hasn't had to change a lightbulb in his life. No doubt he'll be flying first plusplusplus class to China...

You can hate me all you want for saying this but THERE ARE NO CUTS!!!!, when will people actually look at the figures and understand that public spending is not decreasing and therefore wiping out the defecit (so we run a surplus) until 2017 at the EARLIEST!. 2017 is when we are no longer contributing to the debt, but the debt will still be there. Our total debt is already enroaching onto the 80% mark. There is no money left in the kitty for ANYTHING as anything we are spending is not ours as we do not have any money left!. I've tired to be clear, I really have but no doubt this will still go over the heads of the left wing looneys who want gold-plated pensions of whom those in the private sector could only dream about. Even if the Unions accept the current deal on the table, there will still be a £10,000,000,000 (ten billion) black hole.

Mr Clarkson was only having a joke, some people need laughing sessions I think.
Pay freezes for 2 years or more while inflation is rampant = a pretty nasty pay-cut in my opinion. Instead of saying 'THERE ARE NO CUTS!!!!' you need to think about inflation and increased cost of living. I know several people who will be much worse off in the future.

    omg lol.

Anywho, I've found this whole thing pretty funny. The amount of people that take what he says seriously, and get so outraged at it, that they want him sacked, and threaten legal action is embarrassing.
It's just the typical thing nowadays; 'oh I don't like him, he's horrible, get him off the TV, noone else should be able to watch his stuff.' It's irritating to say the least.
