Default Can someone explain why agencies are dying because of the beta?

I started playing again recently for the first time since around 2010 and all I see are agencies going on strike. I know people dislike the beta but that can't be the reason they are dying, is the beta preventing agencies or something? I have no idea..

There are some features that have been changed or removed which are admittedly going to make things hard for agencies. For example, the inability to trade and only having the donation tool (which includes a 1c fee) is going to increase the cost of running agencies. I don't join agencies, but I get the impression they pay members often. Also, the wired and groups are a bit different, providing it difficult to run in the same way.

Having said this.... It's the owners closing their rooms for the strike, the community is still there and waiting. Things will go back to normal soon, they just need to adapt or wait for features to be added. All will be fine imo

It's a struggle and the changes are hard for fansites too especially the payment/donation change for events and competitions but yeah like the lovely lady above has said, we adapt and we move on. I don't claim to speak for every Habbo but Habbox management have been talking about how to go forward for a long time as these changes have been known for a while now, and yes they absolutely make it difficult and expensive if we want to carry on with the exact same way of rewarding people as before, but we'll get there. One big thing for people to remember is that the Habbo client we now have (with Flash being removed some time today!) is that this is a beta version and isn't meant to be perfect from the word go, there are plenty of tweaks to come and we're all learning it together!

I think people above have mostly answered the question in the title - they're striking because they oppose some of the changes in the new client. Will it be more expensive to run fansites and agencies? Maybe, depends how you adjust. A lot of the "demands" and concerns are things Habbo are already committed on working on (e.g. bringing back features such as chat, missing furni, group forums) and the speed - it's a beta after all.

Currently, the new hotel does not have any 1-1 trading at all. You can only sell on the marketplace.

Habbo have committed to bringing back what they call "private trading" by summer this year. There's a bit of confusion and it's genuinely up in the air what this means, but it seems to be a private version of the Marketplace - where you can choose the individual Habbo you want to show the listing to (as you can see from the tweet below).

This does mean that furni giveaways will never be possible again, as you'll always need to give a credit value back in return for an item of furni etc.

Habbo's justification for this is it's easier to have sales all in one place (via the MP), makes it easier to understand for new players, stops hacked Habbos having all their furni traded over easily, stops people using loopholes to "transfer wealth" and helps combat black market sales. It's also to shrink the number of coins in circulation, ultimately so people buy more. Their jusitifcations are here: https://help.habbo.com/hc/en-us/arti...e-Marketplace-

The other big anger is the taxes- instead of a 1% flat fee (rounded up) for all sales, it's now progressive between 1% (minimum of 1c) up to around 49% for the most expensive furnis. That means if someone wanted to sell a Pink Dragon, at current value they'd only receive 20k credits, and pay 10k in tax (as a loose example).

There's also added confusion with new Travelling Salesman achievements (you have to successfully sell lots of items before you can list things:

    No levels achieved: 10 credits.Level 1: 10 credits.
    Level 2: 100 credits.
    Level 3: 1,000 credits.
    Level 4: 10,000 credits
    Level 5: 100,000 credits

Thanks for the replies people. In regards to trading does anyone remember a room (think it was called trade city) and there was a stack of HC sofas and people would be trading in there.

    Yep Trade City by Varnius
    https://www.habboxwiki.com/Trade_City

Gonna go edit that page now as it has a comment from 2012 about it being the most popular room in the hotel... not quite the case any more

Trade rooms haven't really been a massive thing for quite a while really. A few shops crop up here and there especially for bulk things and 2for1 deals etc which just aren't gonna be possible (sadly) so those will go for sure, but the high-value traders will probably still find an actual buyer and agree a price before listing it on the Marketplace. PARTICULARLY when private listings come into play later this year!

Trade rooms werent really that big tbh, but having agencies going to strike cos they can't moderator their rooms cos admin users in groups have no rights, and cos trading is gone I can understand.
