Her Majesty to be given a 'lighter wreath' on Remembrance Sunday because of her advancing years

On the second Sunday in November, the Queen will perform her annual tradition of leading the nation in tribute to Britain’s war dead.

But for the first time, since she became Queen in 1952, there will be a break with tradition.

This year, the monarch’s Remembrance Day poppy wreath will reportedly be fashioned so it weighs less – to account for her advanced years. The Queen will turn 91 in April.

The usual wreath, which is made from hardboard, broom and crepe paper, is said to weigh 12lb.

But a source told the Daily Mail: “It was felt at the age of 90 she might be grateful for a lighter wreath.”

Last year, the traditional service was shortened in order to decrease the amount of time that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had to stand out in cold weather.

The running time was also cut out of respect to the elderly veterans taking part in the parade.

Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment.

You do realise she is 90? She may be the Queen but that doesn't make her super human.

I think HRH gets a bad press for not much reason really, I have grown to really like him.

He's carved a real role out for himself that has no definition with his charity work, work on architecture, landscaping, town planning & environment. Plus if you look at the work amounts of the Royals then he's top from what I last saw. It's actually the Duke of Cambridge I am worried about and think we should all be worried about... low work ethic and bad relationship with the press that is going to have to change when he becomes Prince of Wales and eventually King.

Prince Charles reminds me of King-Emperor Edward VII - in shadow of his long reigning mother but surprised everyone when he came to throne. By that time, he will have become the Grandfather figure for the realm and William will just be middle aged.
