You won't be able to do A level in that subject if it isn't a C or over. D is a pass on lower levels and C is a pass on higher as far as I am aware.

Further education is tiered into levels.

    A*-C = access to a level 3 course.
A*-E = access to retakes or a level 2 course
    A*-G = access to level 1 course
U - start from level 0. eg. Introductory diploma.

Even though anything below a C is frowned upon I always thought 'U' meaning 'unmarked' was the only fail grade and meant you got so few points you haven't passed or that was what my teachers told me anyway.... From that description I always assumed D grades were still a pass.. I'll be honest and say I got at least one D and still got points from it to get into college lol
I’ll be a story in your head, but that’s okay, because we’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best. A daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I always meant to take it back. Oh, that box, Amy, you’ll dream about that box. It’ll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand-new and ancient and the bluest blue ever. And the times we had, eh? Would had…Never had. In your dreams, they’ll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond and the days that never came.

A*-G is a pass but A*-C is a higher pass.

Don't worry about it too much my mum managed to get into uni with a D in maths when she was supposed to have atleast a C!
