Well I always found the best way was from natural sounds like birds, as it can wake you up and isn't alerting at all. However you can't rely on tweeting to wake you up, infact it rarely happens so I have a horrible sounding alarm then have a shower.

What helps me is I usually go out on my trampoline and jump around there for five minutes. It sounds weird but it really works for me
